Long, slender nails reach out to run across the smooth surface of the Board, the flesh of her fingertips and palm following shortly after. Oh yes, she heard them crying. They all did on the outside. My’rath is at his desk, laying across paperwork as if that’s how a boss man should do his work. Echoes of her late wife Yitumu, of her brother in arms Fate, of her best friend Yimram all linger in the corners of the otherwise empty room, their lives over yet their spirits still strong. Tears are strangely absent on Lady’s face, although her eyes are just as overflowing with emotion as they should be. She rubs the smooth surface of the Board, idly listening to the ripples she causes within the space around her hands as Iret’s cry and the Cast’s reply fill the air. It’s soft, quiet, but an outsider would find them eerie should they have stepped into My’rath’s office unannounced.
“You’re so sentimental about them, Ladyette. It certainly is curious.” My’rath manifests himself a stem of grapes and studies each one for imperfection before comically stripping it of each fruit, “ah... but I can see why. They are your friends and loved ones’ souls in a way, are they not? It’s beautiful seeing you unafraid to express such emotions, even if it hurts, too.”
She ignores the dragon for a moment to sit on the couch closest to the Board, still comforting it with her fingers. Only the three main timelines can hear Iret, and, in reply, Iret can only hear them back - yet there are dying, crying corpses of other timelines wailing for recognition as well. The Cast’s cries drown out the others, but yet, all of them seem to be in tune, almost as if the suffering is universal for each Piece in the Game.
Lady can feel the tears flowing down her cheeks as she leans back, a screen popping up in front of her while she sinks into the soft plush cushion of the couch. The screen flickers as she flips between views, all live feeds of each Piece in the Game. Iret, Damsel, Draco, The Prophet, The Secret Keeper, The Time Traveler... The Beast, who seems oddly agitated as he floats around in that pretty little golden cage of his. The Vessels - all three of them - are sitting in silence, but it is Erwin who looks up and stares through the In Between towards the Board. Lady watches her and the other Vessels, seeing them one by one look up to where Erwin was. Can she hear the cries, too?
Lady ignores whatever comment My’rath tries to make, sitting up in the couch a bit to watch the view before her better. It’s soft at first, so soft she misses it, but soon she catches on to a small lullaby sung by Erwin. Soon, Dede joins in, then the third vessel, singing in harmony that carries through the In Between and to the Board. The Beast is not soothed by this, but seems to have vanished to his hiding place while they sing. Another voice joins in, causing Ladyette to flick her screen once more. Lux Plead is singing, as is Lesmad beside him. Another voice, Draco, and a final one that took her ages to find. A voice from Faerie Dust, none other than Fae who seemed to be singing in tune to help soothe the Cast of their woes.
It doesn’t work at first, for they keep crying and crying, but soon the cries taper off one by one in time with the singing voices. Eventually, only Iret is left to cry out, and only Erwin, Fae, and Draco are singing to try and ease him into a calmer state.
“Your Pieces seem to be on my side tonight,” Lady comments dryly, flicking through screens as she goes. She lingers on Iret’s, watching those tears of gold stream down his face as he’s finally soothed into a numb state, “how unfortunate for you.”
“Unfortunate, or purposed?” My’rath smiles, floating above his desk upside down now. He’s spitting the grapes he once at back into their vine one by one. “You never know what I have in store for you, dear, so watch out.”
“Uh-huh,” she rubs her own face free of tears, then sighs. The lullaby fizzles out, and she once more reaches out to run her hand along the Board. Magic heats up her palms and sends a sense of comfort and ease through the timelines, lulling those still crying to sleep once more.
“Well, whatever it is... thank you.”
A presence manifests next to her out of a fog. My’rath stands behind the couch she’s on and leans over it, sliding down until he could wiggle and flail into a sitting position next to her. One long arm snakes around her arms and holds her close, head resting atop hers as he soothes her with an arm rub.
“Never a problem, my dear, although t’wasn’t me who instructed them to do so.”
When she gives him a confused look, My’rath just smiles and gestures to the screens where Erwin sits in silence, still staring upwards while the other Vessels return to their previous stasis.
“You and I aren’t the only ones playing this Game, remember? Perhaps there’s something inside that still remembers when they used to be a part of your friends.”
