Winter Flames

A small groaned came out of Mikoto’s throat as he shifted from the tensing position he had been stuck for the last eight hours. Raising his right hand and pushing his hair back as he gave up on ‘trying’ to sleep, heavy eyelids slowly opened showing his golden orbs. With his vision still adjusting, he blankly stared into a cloud of white. After a couple of minutes, his eyes adjusted enough and what he was staring at wasn’t a cloud but snow hitting the windshield. He shifted again stretching his left leg the best he could in the cramped space of the car. 

For a second he had forgotten that everyone from HOMRA had decided to spend this months winter holidays in a vacation hot spring hotel in the snowy mountains far from their home. How did Totsuka put it again? Try new things to keep life exciting or something like that. He reached for the pocket of his jacket only to remember that it wouldn’t be proper to smoke in the car without lowering the windshield, and with the current snow storm taking place, everyone inside the car would get uncomfortably cold. 

“Hmm...” He sighed as he tried to get comfortable again, not being able to smoke for hours was starting to irritate him. Did he have a smoking problem? Probably but he didn’t care, he wasn’t the only one who smoked. Mikoto wasn’t really paying attention to what Izumo, Totsuka, Anna, or Misaki were talking about in the car. Since they couldn’t fit everyone in one car, another car followed behind with the rest of the group. He sat at the front of the passenger's seat while Izumo drove. Totsuka sat behind Izumo, while Anna was in the middle and Misaki right behind him. Where they almost there? He needed to get some fresh air soon, a cigarette and a good stretch.

Between Flames

Suoh Mikoto made his way back to the bar in the dark alleys of HOMRA’s territory. It was one of those sleepless nights where he would prefer going for long walks deep into the night than to stay within the closure of the bar's walls. The sound of a chain rustling against the fabric of his jeans could be heard with every step he took, combined with the sounds of him opening and closing the lid of the lighter that he held on his left hand. The cigarette between his lips sat there untouched by the flames as he continued to walk. He took a few more steps before raising the lighter up and lighting up the tip of his cigarette. Blowing the smoke out once he inhaled enough within his lungs. Why he kept a lighter with him was a mystery even to him. Perhaps it was just out of habit since before becoming the Red King he wasn’t able to just flick a fire to light up his cigarettes.

He lazily ruffled his messy red hair with his right hand as he took another long drag of his cigarette stretching his neck up as he did. Staring into the cloudy sky he could smell a snow storm coming. It was already halfway into winter, it was only getting colder and colder each day. He didn’t mind the cold, it was the smallest relieved his body would get from the feeling of his own flames burning into his very being. After walking a while longer he slowly stopped at the sound of familiar wheels running against concrete approaching closer. He knew whos those wheels belonged to already. Why was Misaki out so late at night? He wondered for a second, before ignoring the reason and glancing towards the direction of the incoming sound.
