thoughts on messy, grief-tainted FWB bucktommy after Bobby's death, both of them trying to fill up the voids inside their own hearts and failing miserably because it's not just the sex they miss, its each other, but they're both still too bitter and hurt (for good reason) to sit down and talk about it so they just keep fucking until one day, after months of this, months of sneaking around and lying point blank to their friends and lying to themselves and each other that they're fine, they don't need more than this, the sex is enough, they're fine, one day Tommy's chopper goes down in a storm and the 118 is the closest engine to assist, and the last thing dispatch gets from Tommy before his radio cuts out is "tell Evan I--"
GIRL. It's self care Saturday and this is not self care 😭
But!!!
They seek solace in the familiar and they both think the other person is no longer interested, esp Tommy because Buck never took back his very hurtful remark about sleeping with people he had no feelings for.
But Buck knows that Tommy at least wants him in his life in some way, and he assumes that is how he can be there for Tommy, while Tommy's like Evan just lost his dad and is in no state of mind to address this, if having sex helps him sleep better and function better then okay what the hell it's not like I was going out to meet anyone else anyway
So the chopper goes down and at Dispatch it's Josh who hears the words and while he doesn't know the FWB situation, he knows for sure that Buck cares deeply about Tommy and once he has sent the 133 he calls Buck (who isn't on shift) and relays the message, and Buck basically loses his entire mind trying to work out what Tommy wanted to say
He goes to the hospital and he isn't allowed to see Tommy or find out his condition because Tommy switched his emergency contact to his captain, and the captain of the 217 does not hold back lashing out at Buck for the damage he's caused to Tommy's career and personal life
"that man is stupid in love with you and you don't appreciate him enough, and if you don't love him the way you should, then get the hell away from him and stay away"
That is when Buck really realizes how he has been taking advantage of Tommy and how he never showed Tommy the real extent of his feelings, but he can't tell Tommy because Tommy's in a coma
The 118 is angry that Buck has been hiding this from them and he loses it spectacularly because how dare they make it about them when the Love of His Life may not make it out of his coma
Cue Harry, Ravi and May helping Buck sneak into Tommy's room and Buck tearfully apologizing and confessing his real feelings
Tommy responds to his voice and then he wakes up and they get back together properly after. Buck helps Tommy through rehab, transfers out of the 118 to the 122, time for the spinoff
