constant revelations // amos & mary
Here was the thing Mary decided would be great: when one aspect of her life got so busy she wasn’t sure how she was going to handle it, all other things should be respectful and put themselves on hold. Just this week, she had to finish the rest of her Transfiguration essay, practice for a practical exam in the next Defense Against the Dark Arts class, read a total of six chapters in her textbooks, as well as prepare for her tutoring session with Dorcas. So she would really prefer to focus on all of that and not have to deal with some errant personal problem.
But things didn’t work that way. As made evident by the boy sitting across the room who had the nerve to tell her he loved her before winter break and then play coy with her since they got back. Mary tapped her quill against her book as she openly stared at Amos, trying to figure out the best way to approach him.
Should she go barreling up asking who the hell he thought he was? No, much too hard of a stance. Should she send an enchanted, flying note across the room to him? No, too easy to ignore and she didn’t want this to be ignored anymore. Should she say she loves him too to get his attention and thank quickly backtrack? No, no, no. Far too messy.
Finally, with a definitive close of her book, she made her way over to him even without a good plan in mind.
“Hey,” she said, bumping him playfully but apprehensively on his shoulder. Solid start. “Don’t know if you noticed me staring over there, but it’s only partially because the sunlight is hitting your hair in the best way right now.” Was that too playful? That was never something something she had to worry about before, and she wasn’t sure if she should worry about it now.
“Um, I was actually wondering if we could talk.”
