Cassius, how can you hate Dorian so much when you never even admitted your feelings to Lex? Do you think anything would have changed if you had?
Cassius arched an eyebrow at the invasive questions that were suddenly being launched at him. “For the record,” He slowly began as he brought his arms up to cross them over his chest. “I have despised the majority of the people I have had the misfortune of encountering since I moved to this city,” The Celestial stated in a measured tone. “Meaning, Dorian is not and never will be considered special in that sense or any other--for that matter.” He paused, his lips thinning as he took a moment to calm his rising temper. His face remained indifferent, but his arms had lowered while his hands balled into tight fists.
If anyone had been in front of him, the curly-haired male would have punched them in the face. ‘How dare someone come to harass him about that insufferable human and his equally insufferable lover’, Cassius thought to himself and had to refrain from gritting his teeth in a snarl. “As for Lex--” He paused needing to give himself a moment since he barely spoke their name out loud anymore. His tongue felt heavy and his chest began to tighten to the point that he had to bring up a hand and press against it. It wouldn’t be noticeable, but some of his powers flowed from his hand to his chest to soothe his erratic heartbeat. “I don’t have feelings for him.”
Cassius stated once he was able to speak with a deadpan tone once more. “Lex--is an asshole who left me with the burden of paying for a two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartment on my own. He was my roommate and partner on the force. There was nothing more to our relationship.” He paused and forced himself to continue through the ache those words brought him. “When I find him, he better pray that I don’t kill him for abandoning--his responsibilities.” He stopped for a second to keep himself from saying ‘from abandoning me’. The Celestial’s mouth twitched briefly. “I’m not sure who decided to come toy with me by asking these ridiculous questions. However, I will find you and when I do, I’ll make you regret even saying his name in my presence.”
@iinsomniis || Cassius and Hayden || Prompt here "There will always be another day"
“Mm? Who are you talking to, Hayden?” The curly-haired male asked as he lowered the newspaper he had been reading. The pair were sitting in a cafe, a plate of food in front of the younger male while Cassius only had a cup of black coffee, an americano. He wasn’t particularly fond of food prepared by humans, but Hayden needed to eat and Cassius had no intention of inviting the younger male to his home. The Celetisal’s gaze narrowed suspiciously and he wondered if Hayden was daydreaming again. “Mm, eat your food. It’s getting cold,” Cassius commanded, his tone firm before the paper was pulled back up in front of his face. He didn’t know what it was about the other male that made the Celestial concerned for their well-being and that annoyed him.
‘ there will always be another mercy ’ (Dorian to Cassius)
Dorian’s words were met with a dead silence that was so thick and heavy it could have suffocated someone. A human was attempting to lecture him on the concept of mercy. It struck a deep nerve within Cassius to even think about. He shouldn’t even have to be in the same room as the other male, and yet, the mutual void they shared at the absence of Lex were the chains that bound them together. The curly-haired brunet made a ‘tch’ sound wishing that it had been Dorian who was missing without a trace.
The lessons of Mercy was something the Celestial knew all too well. It was a concept that through self-inflicted punishment, he bore the scars to remind him of all the failed attempts to regain admittance to heaven. This weakness wasn’t something he took pride in, but he knew it was his penance for all the wrong he had done against his heavenly father. “What do you know about mercy?” Cassius asked in a tone that was dripping with venom as he spoke. It was a rhetorical question since he didn’t care to hear whatever response would be given.
The curly-haired brunet had an immense dislike for the entire human race, but, for the most part, he managed to stomach interacting with them on a daily bases. Yet, when it came to even the sound of Dorian’s name, Cassius found it difficult not to spew vile remarks. He always lost his patience in a matter of seconds when dealing with this particular person. To make matters worse, he knew what it was about Dorian that he hated. This human–this infuriating creature, was the last person to see Lex alive. Cassius wasn’t sure Lex was dead even though all the signs pointed to it. I wasn’t a route he was ready to travel just yet. Instead, he preferred to blame Dorian for their disappearance. At the same time, as if fate was playing some cruel joke, Cassius saw a lot of resemblance in Lex and Dorian. This only intensified how much he loathed the fact that Dorian had been as close if not closer to Lex than he had been. The Celestial blinked a few times as he felt pain shoot across his chest that started at where his heart was located. It always happened when his thoughts centered on Lex.
Even as a fallen angel, Cassius still held a lot of his former powers, and yet, in this aspect, his gifts failed. After Lex’s disappearance, the curly-haired male had spent a year living as a recluse and denounced using his power. ‘What good were they, if they still allowed him to lose the one person he—’. Cassius violently shook his head to force those dark thoughts away. Lex was nothing more to him than his co-worker and roommate. The Celestial felt owed an explanation of why they ran out and left him with the bills. Cassius still lived in the apartment they had shared and Lex’s room remained untouched. It had become a tomb frozen in time and Cassius spent more time there than he would ever admit. Lex was a loud-mouthed, uncouth human that would have starved and lived in squalor had it not been for Cassius doing all the cooking and cleaning. He had wasted so much time on that ungrateful asshole only to discover Lex had the nerve to keep a secret life. A life that had involved Dorian, who was someone who felt as entitled to Lex’s memory as Cassius did.
“Mercy is allowing humans to remain on this earth when they are nothing more than a disease,” He stated, staring down at his own wrists. The angry wounds form his last punishment still vibrant on his alabaster skin. “Mercy is me not speeding up the process of your annihilation. Mercy is Lex–” Cassius blinked, his tongue feeling heavy as he moved to tug down his sleeves to hide his scars. “Don’t speak to me about mercy, you insufferable asshole.”
His lips pursed together as he looked them over, brow raised curtly, "I heard you had something for me?" Dorian drawled, rain jacket pulled tightly around himself though it did little to keep him dry as the rain soaked into his hair flattening the black tresses. "Let me guess, you don't actually have anything right, just like last time Cassius? You know I can't keep meeting you like this just to give you information when you give me nothing in return." (Dorian to Cassius)
There were many things that Cassius disliked about being in the human realm. The main dislike was the fact that it was populated with humans. In his opinion, they were far worse than any monster the Celestial had ever encountered. Another thing he disliked was how fickle the weather was. One minute it was sunny and burning up, the next he was dealing with storms. Currently, the weather seemed to mirror his sour mood through bouts of torrential rain and wind. By the time Dorian had arrived, Cassius felt the urge to strangle the human for keeping him waiting so long. The Celestial wasn’t too keen on this “partnership” that had formed with Dorian, but after the untimely disappearance of his previous contact with the police department, he had limited options.
The curly-haired brunet took a moment to silently remind himself why he even bothers to interact with Dorian. It was all about gaining his wings back and if he had to trudge through hell first then so be it. “If you spent half as much time working on cases as complaining then you’d have a higher rank by now,” Cassius replied in a curt tone. Choosing to ignore their rude comment, his eyes narrowed as he stepped forward holding a manila envelope. “Your case about the seven-year-old girl who went missing several months ago. That case went cold, right?” He states, getting right to business since he didn’t want to be near the other for too long. “I found a new lead,” He added in a softer tone. Cassius had to be careful how he presented these “leads” or “findings” to Dorian because if the Celestial wanted, he could just use his powers to immediately solve crimes. He wouldn’t gain his ticket back to heaven by just solving all the world’s issues. He needed to guide humans to be better people and solve their own problems. So, he had to pretend to occasionally get premonitions and Dorian got all the credit when the case was solved. Oh, how he hated humans.
