Losing It || MerDer
It was rather late, Meredith figured - mostly hoped that the kids would all be off to bed by the time she would get home. Her visit to Allie’s room earlier had left her in such a state, she had managed to face the rest of her day with composure, had held it all back in, but the closer to home she was getting, the less she was able to pull it together. Her jaw clenched, her heart feeling so heavy, her throat tight, Meredith parks the car in the garage and falls back in her seat, breathing in and out, trying to remain somewhat calm. She swallows thickly before shutting off the car, grabbing her bag and heading out of the car. She locks the doors and heads inside, quietly stepping in and closing the door behind her. She hears Luna’s paws on the wooden floor making her way to her. Turning around, Meredith bends over, feeling the tears pricking her eyes, her lips pressed tightly together, a large lump in her throat. “Hey big girl... hi...” she mutters, petting Luna’s head and scratching her behind her ear, which was her favorite spot. And for a split second, her mind got distracted from the emotional turmoil going on inside. Only for a split second.
