It was a simple matter to push open the secret passageway that connected their rooms. He'd done it a hundred, a thousand times before. He likely spent more nights in Bal's room, in Bal's bed, than he had his own.
That fact was evident as he emerged into the king's chambers. It was subtle, but the evidence of his presence was interspersed throughout the area just as much as its owner's.
Mhoirbheinn wasn't sure how long he spent in Bal's room staring at their things, the fruits of their centuries spent together. After all these years, he'd known Bal longer than he'd been without him. Bal had been at his side longer than even his own mother.
Bal. His Bal. Or at least he'd thought so.
Mhoirbheinn didn't turn at the sound of the room's door opening behind him.
