lately, there's been a huge influx of blogs with urls like "staff28572" tagging people in posts, and telling them things like "security notice / need to verify your blog ", etc. And they'll direct you to click on a link.

Don't click it. It's a phishing scam. Block and report the blog if you get tagged by them. Tumblr staff will never tag you in a post like that... and they don't have a million side staff blogs. The only real tumblr staff blogs are @staff and @support.

Not everybody enjoys running their blog this way and that's a-okay. But removing the idea that RP interactions are something that can "expire" or that the asks in your inbox have an unspoken "due-date", takes the pressure off of both your partners and yourself and can help bust feelings of stress/anxiety from the hobby. Posting this here, for anyone who might not know about the new-ish phishing scam that's been going around. This is the second time it's happened to my main blog, so I immediately recognized that super long, rambly starter message right off the bat

To my understanding, the scammer will send you a message where they claim to have accidentally reported you, and then they'll try to redirect you to discord under the guise of speaking to a tumblr rep there about resolving the issue. That's not what happens, though. What happens is that they'd steal your login information and use it to continue the cycle. You would lose access to your account. There's probably more to it than that, that's just the bare bones of the whole thing. No, the message will not always come from the same person. It will come from different people, usually your mutuals who have fallen for the scam before it reaches you

Tumblr will never redirect you to another platform to resolve issues like this. If you've been reported, they would likely send you an email to inform you, with all the information there on how to proceed

If you get a message like I did, or even one that's similar in nature but not identical, do not give them any information. Do not go to discord, do not speak to whoever it is that's waiting over there. Just report and block them. The second you call them out, they'll block you. So make sure to report them for phishing before they report you for being smart and informed

I wish the internet was safer and that people were more trustworthy and honest, but unfortunately, that's just not the reality we live in
