Aroace lace who doesn't realize that not feeling romantic/sexual attraction is a normal thing and instead thinks of it as yet another reason that she isn't alive because she doesn't know it's a thing that happens and is normal. Does anyone hear me.

Ok ok ok I need to ramble about lace more now I think
So we know that being disabled is a sin according to the citadel, yes? And we know two examples of punishment for this: the first mentioned in the image above, and Phantom.
Phantom is kinda a complicated situation though, considering I don't think it's ever mentioned explicitly why they're at the exhaust organ, but I don't think it's by their choice and it's a punishment for a few reasons, but this post isn't about Phantom so I'm not gonna get into that right now.
But, a couple things to note about them that are gonna be important:
They were discarded and considered a failure by GMS, who, like Lace, they relied on to survive.
Without her, they are dying a slow and probably painful death, losing their mask, which we know to be a bug's face. They are literally losing themselves because they were considered a failure, the fragility with which they were spun catching up to them.
Lace probably knows where they are, and their fate. She knows what will likely happen if she is considered a failure as well.
So Lace sticks with GMS, harbouring some level of resentment for her but never acting out, because if she does, she loses her source of life, and without that, not only is she a failure in the eyes of her mother but she is a sinner in the eyes of the citadel. No group to accept her.
She tries incredibly hard to be the perfect child to her mother. Begging to be noticed, forcing herself into the role she was created for so incredibly hard that she doesn't even see herself as alive. Because that's all she is, her mother's perfect child. A robot. She can't be anything else. That's failure, and if she fails, then she is left to unravel alone, accepted by no one.
And then Hornet comes along. GMS clearly wants her more than Lace. Lace knows she's a replacement for the weavers, and she's well aware that Hornet is half weaver, far more appealing to GMS. It places her role in jeopardy, but she so wishes for something to change, to be free from her prison at the same time. She fights Hornet the first two times, not wanting to put herself at risk, still minimizing her self just to her role as her mother's perfect, never changing, not real and not living child. Begging to be seen, to be desired more, because if she doesn't fit the role that she was made for, what else does she have? But she wants free, she wants out of it, she wants change.
Change is what she gets, she's willing to sacrifice herself so that Hornet can be free while her mother is taken down. And she's thrown away her purpose as the perfect child, and she has played a large role in her mother's death. Her life source's death. She knows and considers herself broken, a failure. She does not ask for rescuing from the void, she cannot fight it, she is willing to die in the abyss.
Because after all, she was doomed from the start, no? And she's finally gotten the rebellion, the revenge she wanted. And there's nothing left for her. If she were to return, she would either die slowly, potentially being viewed as a sinner while fighting herself because she no longer can fit the mold she so desperately tried to fit, or she would just be tied to Hornet instead for silk, because she can never be free. She was never made to be free. The only time she will be truly free is in death.
