Jory moved through their bedroom like a whisper, pale in the moonlight, and placed a single fortune cookie on Daniel’s pillow. He lingered for a moment, watching him, a faint, almost mischievous smile brushing his lips. Then he melted back into the shadows, leaving the small, human oddity behind in the quiet of their endless, immortal night.
As usual, it took until full dark for Daniel to wake, and when he did, he reached automatically to feel for Jory beside him. When he found the space empty he finally opened his eyes, but his focus shifted from the bedding to the object immediately within his view.
"What the..."
He sat up and took the fortune cookie in hand, cupping it and looking at it for a long silent moment before finally calling out, the amusement evident in his voice.
"-- You don't know how tempting it is to break this open right here and become the one that leaves crumbs in bed."
