“Pick the phone up!” The older twin called out in complete annoyance as he paced the floor of his apartment back and forth, nerves kicking his body into overdrive. The so called prince had gone out with Emma and her pirate to track down the rest of their merry band. James knew that David had many enemies down here, and a lot of them wouldn’t be as forgiving as James as been.
To think, his whole existence would be gone if it weren’t for David. Seconds before he was thrown into the river, David came in and saved him, out of nowhere. He expected the other to let him fall into nothingness for all the trouble he caused. How he wanted to still be hating his brother with every fiber of his being, but deep down he couldn’t. Without David, he’d be gone. He’d be a figment of people’s memories and nothing more. Because of David, he was still something.
“David!” He called upon hearing the other’s voice, almost throwing the phone across the room when he realized it was just his answering machine. Eyes then darted to the clock to realize it was now an hour past when David said he’d be back. When he heard the prolonged beep, the man took in a deep breath through clenched teeth.
“David…you know who this is. Get back to me soon. It’s not like I’m worried or anything. I just won’t want have to fill out all the paperwork when I find your dead body.” With that, he hung up the phone and fell back onto the couch. He didn’t mean for his words to come out so harsh, they just came out that way naturally. That whole cocky, snarky side was a defense mechanism for the ex-prince. His worry and slight annoyance with his brother did not however stop him from popping open the beer on the coffee table.
