As with all things living, the inevitable will always arrive- death. Though he had assumed she had many more centuries left in her, he could understand the loneliness she must have faced alone in her quarters without a husband or child to keep her company.
Sesshomaru had left the pack to pursue his own life, and his Father had done the unforgivable. Ultimately, his parents were adults and their matters were not his to comment on, but he was free to feel however he did. Though his Mother never truly let on to how hurt she was by Toga’s leaving, he could reason that she was not left unaffected.
The loss of his Father was profound and intense, and he couldn’t begin to imagine how it would be to lose a beloved husband. If nothing else, as a filial son, he’d made sure that he not fail her by passing on before her as well. Losing both a husband and a son would be a lot for any wife/mother to handle.
Having heard the news of her passing, he’d visited ‘home’ for one last time to help settle affairs and to bid his Mother a final farewell, overseeing the funeral process.
Upset, but devoid of emotion upon his stony facial features, he oversaw the affairs solemnly, saddened by the loss of his last remaining parent. There was more that he wished she could have stayed behind for to witness, but it was her time. Even if she passed, he felt as though she would watch over him from beyond the grave on occasion to check up on how her sole pup was faring.
“Rest easy, Esteemed Mother, this Son will live well.” Do not worry for him beyond the grave and enjoy the restful slumber of the afterlife. May she no longer be riddled with the annoyance of living and be at peace.
After settling the affairs, he left to see to the duties that still called his name during his absence. Now without either of his parents, he had only himself to be supported by. Soon, it would be his turn to be the supporting role in a young one’s life.
