Like a lot of non-noble Telliuses Micaiah's background is basically just a one sentence hand wave i.e. brought by an old lady, learned about branded that way. but at least it's in game and not stuck in the recollections book am i right kids

I've written about it before in drabbles like here but I tend to think Micaiah had a fairly stable upbringing, at least for as long as her mentor was alive - and basically took over her job for as long as she was able to after her death. It is a rather big deal per the plot that compared to Branded like Stefan and Soren, Micaiah has an easier time living and passing in Beorc society so it seems to make sense.

She learned basic writing and arithmetic from her mentor and job. She also knows how to forage for her plants, and their medicinal uses as that's primarily what she survived on.

I keep meaning to mention it but Micaiah imo is not fluent in the Ancient Tongue. She's memorized all of the light tomes from Tellius, and is adept enough at magic that should could make out anima tomes as well but while she can read and write (and cast) using the language as reference, I don't think she's gotten to the point where she thinks in full sentences or finds it comes naturally too her.

(in canon iirc when volug talks to her she tends to reply in common? which is more for the player but i truly think shes the type who can hear and understand ancient tongue but wouldn't be able to speak it very well without practice.)

((**i also hc long loooong after her reign she finally travels to hattari and lives there for quite some time, becoming much more familiar with it there. hehe, makes me wonder if and when she comes back to serenes or goldoa if she has an accent.))

Ah, simple question, simple answer.

No matter how many fleeting attachments Rhea has - no matter how many Wilhelms, Edelgards, saint or sinners - there is only one person in Rhea's world, nay, the world who has ever really mattered.

That person has always been Rhea's goal, and anything or anyone that gets broken along the way matters so much less than that culmination.

She's been called a thousand different things over a thousand different years but that all fades in time. When Rhea achieves her goal, even she will fade, and that's fine.

She's only ever longed to hear one voice. What else matters? Reputation, duty, sins? Nothing. Nothing else matters.

As an empath Micaiah should be good with emotions. Like in theory. And I think for the most part she is? But when it comes to negative emotions, it's complicated; at least she's not at Rhea levels of compartmentalizing to cope (tm).

I think Micaiah is above all a practical person, so she doesn't want worrying thoughts to linger but for the same reason if Micaiah can't immediately solve whatever negativity is hanging over her she does think it best to put it away at the time.

For instance, it seems she became a vigilante for Daein simply because she couldn't stand not doing anything with plans falling into place from there. If something bothers Micaiah she is going to do something about it.

So what is there to do about the fact everyone she knows and loves is bound to die before her?

It's telling that Micaiah doesn't worry about this sooner sans the one time she tries to deal with it by ditching Sothe when he was like thirteen oof.

She actually picks up her patriotic streak when they are apart and the war begins - according to one of their base conversations, the way regular people rallied together during the war effort finally made her realize how important community was to her.

Which means she really didn't feel she had anyone to lose for the first twenty years of her life aaaah...
