naruto as a text is really not that complicated which makes sense because the target demographic is kids and teens? and imo it succeeds at conveying its political and philosophical ideas really well within the format and with the audience in mind. but somehow grown adults will see characters discuss very plainly what their ideology is and miss the point entirely and idek if that's a failure of reading comprehension or the fact that some people just consider characters based on vibes and nothing else and sometimes it feels like that completely overrides their ability to actually recognize they aren't real people and are in fact vectors of storytelling. head in hands
god the reblog graph tool makes me so fucking annoyed. it's confusing and serves little purpose and doesn't even put you on the site of your own reblog so you'd at least relatively know where you are. this is the feature they invested time into in favor of things people have been requesting? cool
i have to say this, unfortunately, but you cannot convince me that, despite all the proclamations and regurgitations of the "nobody cares if you have sex or not" talking point, that a lot of people, including those who consider themselves progressive, don't have a random, kneejerk i'd even say, rabid hatred towards aspecs.
time and time again, all over the discourseTM we keep seeing the same sentiment brought up: "nobody cares, you're not being bigoted against, this is not a problem, you're not special, get out". just anecdotally, i saw someone just an hour ago reply to a post of an aspec woman sharing her experience of being prescribed unneeded and unasked for contraceptives for being asexual with "they do that to all women, it has nothing to do with your asexuality."
it makes me very bitter and very angry that instead of seeing us, then, as natural allies who are fighting the same fight and want to achieve progress in the same direction, so many people would rather spend valuable time and resources to kick us out. people who experience the same type of issue as you are and fighting to end it are not "piggybacking" off of the movement, they are the movement.
if you are more concerned about aspecs "feeling special" or "looking for reasons to be oppressed" and would rather throw us in the water than accept us sitting in the same boat, you might be poking more holes in your own ship; in the end, you will sink too.
