The description for that was:
Your writing is a comfort that your readers didn’t really know they were missing. It has a deeper meaning that may be missed by some of your readers but adored by the ones lucky enough to find it. Poetic language drips from your pages like honey, a sweet solace for every reader. Your words welcome all with open arms, encompassing them in a warm embrace that they simply melt into.
I don't really think that's a fitting result (glancing at some of the filth and MCD fics in particular) – but it might fit for some fics :) and that's probably okay! With how varied my writing is, it would be difficult to describe all the different ones with only a few words anyway ^^
I don't really know who to tag, but @ao3usermelancholyhues and @thetragicallynerdy maybe? <3 and whoever sees it and want to do it too!
It's been another few months so I'm gonna do this again. It's pretty boring and nothing changed much anymore since last time...
Here's the post with last years answers: link
Tagging whoever wants to do it <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
24+1
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
40,682
The last time I answered those questions, I set my goal for 2024 to 50k and it's not even that far away now :) Already wrote 12k this year so maybe I'll reach it! But I'm also not really motivated to write (and especially to share it) anymore so I'm not that hopeful honestly. There's only one fic I want to see to the end but that'll maybe be 3-4k
3. What fandoms do you write for? no change
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
little cheating with one list for microfics and one for longer fics again, but there's not much change to last time in general:
microfics:
But what does it mean? [3]
Life Changes [4]
And the winner is... [7]
A professional [8]
it's subtle as a shotgun and heavy as a brick [10]
5th place is new and 3 and 4 switched, otherwise the same
other fics:
not strong enough (to stay away) [1]
metal, smurfs, and a pink boy [2] & moans, a puddle, and a kilt [5]
dream awake [6]
a touch of blessing [9]
to all my young pioneers records [11]
they switched around a bit but nothing else
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? no change
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? no change
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
broken roses
8. Do you get hate on fics? no change
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? no change
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? no change
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? no change
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? no change
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? no change
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? no change
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Not really a change, but I did write a little bit for both I mentioned last year :)
16. What are your writing strengths? no change
17. What are your writing weaknesses? no change
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? no change
19. First fandom you wrote for? no change
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
That's so hard still! And despite having a touch of blessing already published last time, this one moved to my favorite in the last few weeks :)
7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?
I often use a word or phrase from the fic itself when there's something that stands out. And if I can't think of anything I often use a song title from one of my liked songs, so there aren't that many where I actually used the lyrics.
So from the two I used, one is from Against Me! and one from Within Temptation, since I used lines from the same Within Temptation song as a fic and chapter title, it's probably them.
17. Your favorite character to write this year?
That's such a hard question and there aren't even that many characters I've written, but I think it's either Eddie (Stranger Things) or Suki (atla). I've written mostly Eddie centered or Eddie POV fics, but only one atla one where I really enjoyed Suki (I'm not sure if I really managed to write her how she deserves)
28. Favorite work you wrote this year?
That's also really really hard! There are a few microfics I really like, either just the premise/scene/vibes or because I'm really proud of what I made within the challenge restriction, but I'm also proud of the longer ones because they are longer (which is basically over 1k...) and and actually getting the words out was so hard for me for so long.
I may be cheating a little bit here but since those categories are so distinct in my head, I'm going to choose one each. It's still hard to decide, but:
The microfic favourite is 'Life Changes' and the longer fic 'dream awake'
For the director's cut meme: Any fic you want to talk about!
Thank you 😊
Alright, I'm a little late with the answer now and tumblr tried to keep me from answering altogether once already...
And over the course of that I changed my mind on which fic I wanted to talk about like 10 times:
At first I wanted to talk about 'A professional' (AO3 link), the first microfic (@/steddiemicrofic) I published and which I'm still really proud of! Especially how I managed to capture that moment, from what should probably be a 100k slow burn, right before everything changes in those few words. I've spent some time imagining how they got there or what happens after. But ultimately I think it's up to each reader to imagine those scenarios for themselves.
Then I was thinking about 'not strong enough (to stay away)' (AO3 link) but mostly because I'm currently trying to figure out if and how I want to write another chapter (or two) and because you betaed (again, thank you so much!) it and encouraged me to post it despite my initial worry about how explicit and niche it was - so obviously an ask from you reminded me of that one.
I've also been thinking about 'dream awake' (AO3 link), the newest and somehow also one of the oldest. I started writing the first part so long ago and then kinda forgot about it until recently when I added some smut I'm really proud of! But the only thing that's really to tell about it otherwise is how I got the idea in the first place, and that's either really obvious or TMI.
So I finally decided to pick 'to all my young pioneers records' (AO3 link). The first thing I posted and obviously really special to me for that reason. But it's also special because it isn't focused on steddie like my other Stranger Things fics but based on the friendship and parallels that could have happened between Will and Eddie. And it's also kinda special or experimental in form, with the main part of the fic only being once scene and then sort of a recap of the most important moments they shared together but the bigger parts of the words being in the footnotes where those moments are actually told.
When I wrote it, I actually started out with the main scene and then tried to come up with what those important moments could be and because I really liked what I came up with, I wrote them down too. So it ended up being a piece which kinda shows the workings of my brain with all those tangents and tangents of tangents expanding and integrating with eachother. I was debating whether to write it out with those longer tangents in brackets or rewording the other part and integrating everything in one continuous text, but ended up with the footnote format because it shows those tangents and seemed to be the easiest to read. I hope it's actually easy to read, I put a lot of effort in wrangling the links on AO3 to make navigating as easy as possible, but noone told me yet if it worked or not.
But either way, I had so much fun coming up with those moments, thinking of ways to integrate everything and mostly everyone and getting back into writing! I think doing it with those short stories really helped me back then when writing 500 words still seemed like an enormous undertaking. And I'm glad I made it and it got me to a point where I set my goal for a fic at 2k and then ended up writing over 4k words ☺️
Made some low effort clay miniatures for our D&D party!
[ID: A photo of 5 miniatures made from polymer clay. Their bodies are a cylindrical shape of one colour and they don't have faces.
Figure descriptions from left to right: The first one is purple and wears a wizard hat. The second is almost double in hight, silver with a silver helmet and a black simplified maze. The third is small, black, beard and hair are half white and half pink. The forth is big again, orange, holding a barrel on one side. The last one is small, green, and holding a decorated shield covering most of the body. End ID]
