okay but imagine being wolfram. your mom's the queen, which makes you a prince, but you're also the heir to your family's estate on your father's side. your whole life you've been praised for your looks and everyone expects you to act just like your mother, who looks exactly like you and has a new man every week, but you just don't care. why go to all that effort? there are more important things to focus your energy towards like being racist and lighting things on fire. you figure at some point you'll end up married to some noblewoman and start a traditional family, but you're only 82, you've got time.
then some rando who is not only not from one of the noble families but isn't even from this dimension shows up and is declared king. you're an ex-prince now, which, whatever, but now you're supposed to serve this random kid??? who is fifteen??? and you try to argue against this, and you let your anger get out of hand even more so than you usually do, and somehow it ends with him accidentally proposing and you accidentally accepting?? and sure he's cute but he doesn't have much else going for him and this wasn't exactly how you saw your life going. so now you're stuck in this relationship that neither of you asked for, and you try to kill him in a duel to get out of it but it turns out he's secretly slightly competent so that doesn't work, and you accept that the situation is hopeless and all you can do is push him to be the best king he can be so you won't have to be ashamed to call him your fiance.
and then. oh no. then you catch feelings.
you catch feelings and he's either clueless or lying because you see the way he looks at you, but whenever you try to address the obvious chemistry between you two he cries "but we're both guys!" and seriously, what do they teach their kids on earth that this guy doesn't know that same-sex attraction is a thing?
and so you, after 82 years of being plagued with unwanted attention from people of all genders, have finally found someone you wholeheartedly want in every sense of the word...and he also happens to be the first homophobe you've ever met. what a curse. what an absolute Saw trap of a relationship. I think I would just go home. pack it up and go back to castle bielefeld and pretend your whole life wasn't just turned upside down by some himbo jock with a nice smile who keeps asking you to bathe together (but, like, platonically!) and keeps flirting with your brothers, for shinou's sake, I mean you're not exactly a Good Person but surely you don't deserve THIS! but you don't go home, you double down and dedicate your life to protecting this idiot. because you love him, but more than that, you actually start to believe in him. to believe that things can change, that humans don't have to be your enemy, that people can change. that your disgraced cousin can slowly redeem himself, that a 10 year old assassin could become a beloved daughter, that you, even you, can soften and learn to forgive and acknowledge your mistakes. and before you know it you've accidentally become a good person. and all you wanted was some dick.
