“yeah,” he says contemplative, brows furrowed in thought. just as quickly as it had happened, his expression smooths out into something adoring. something so easy to do when it was izuku, who was kind and gave yuji every reason to fight alongside him. scarred and calloused hands close over izuku’s, fingers slipping into the spaces between his with ease, as if he had done this his entire life.

"you haven't lost your brother, either," he says, reaching out to brush hair from takeshi's eyes. phoenix doesn't know everything takeshi has gone through in the time they've been apart. so much has happened, and he won't ask. takeshi will tell him when he's ready, and phoenix will be there to accept him with open arms.

"hey . . . i don't know what's got you thinking like this, but if someone said something to you or they did anything, i'll kick their asses." he's fought people for less. for takeshi, he'd go to war. he leans over, pressing a kiss to his shoulder, lingering a moment longer before he pulls back. "just say the word, okay? i've got your back, always. and just so you know, i think you're doing great, and you're doing your best. that's all anyone could ever ask of you, 'keshi. i'm proud of how far you've come, y'know? really proud."

"sorry."  voice  is  quiet  as  he  keeps  his  gaze  low.  even  if  michiko  isn't  raising  his  voice  at  him,  megumi  still  feels  like  he's  in  trouble.  though  he  knows  any  punishment  would  be  well  deserved.  he'd  gone  out  without  telling  anyone  where  he'd  be.  "i  just  .  .  .  needed  some  fresh  air."

satoru doesn't need his six eyes to see that eito is lying to him. whatever is on his mind, it plagues him enough for it to be on the forefront of his mind, but for whatever reason, he doesn't want to tell satoru.

it could be that eito doesn't necessarily trust satoru with whatever this is. or maybe he genuinely doesn't want to talk about it. satoru can't fault eito for those ; there's so much he doesn't say because he doesn't want to. there's so much he doesn't say because he doesn't trust others. sometimes — most times —he does not wish to burden the others with his problems. they're his burden to carry, no one else's. though he hasn't seen eito in some years, he has always been much too considerate of others.

perhaps he feels sorry for satoru, for all he has to do.

satoru doesn't like how that makes him feel.

"i can't help if you aren't being honest, eito." satoru rarely has used a serious tone with eito. around him, certainly, but never directly. not since his return, at least. head cants slightly and sunglasses slide just enough for him to peer at his colleague over the rim of the shades. "but you have your reasons for not telling me, and i can't push you to speak. we all have our demons, some more than others, but this is a reminder that you don't have to carry them on your own." a pause as he glances off to the side, out the window overlooking the school grounds. "and you don't have to worry about what everyone else is carrying."

"why else would you being doing it?" the young woman crouches down to pick up her books that had been pushed off of her desk. brows are furrowed as she places them back onto the desk, turning to face him, arms crossing over her chest. "you got banished because of us." her, mike, and sully ; not only that, but they had been the ones to throw him through the door. surely there was resentment to be had. surely, it had to be one of the reasons why he had stuck around her, why he terrorized her and the people in her life.

"you want to get back at us, don't you? it's why you've been following me around school, causing trouble everywhere, isn't it? why you won't make yourself visible to anyone but me. you're having fun tormenting me. and even if you can go back, i don't think you will. you're enjoying this so much more than you would enjoy anything back in monstropolis."
