exclusive interview: From Story to Sound: SYA Introduces His World Through First Solo Album [23:24]

After steadily building his artistry over the years, SYA officially steps into the spotlight as a solo artist with the release of his first full-length album, [23:24].

Rooted deeply in personal experiences, the album reflects SYA’s honest storytelling, musical exploration, and quiet confidence as he embarks on a new chapter of his career. In this interview, SYA opens up about the natural journey toward his solo debut, the stories woven into his music, and the kind of artist—and person—he hopes to become moving forward.

Congratulations on your solo album release! How does it feel to finally introduce yourself to the world as SYA the solo artist?

SYA: First of all, I’m really happy and grateful to be able to greet everyone through a full-length album like this. I feel truly joyful and excited.

This solo album release marks a very personal milestone for you. At what point did you realize you were ready to take this step on your own?

SYA: Rather than suddenly realizing it, I think it came together naturally as I slowly worked on the songs and prepared for it.

What was the main concept or message you wanted listeners around the world to feel when they listened to the songs in this album?

SYA: I think the message can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the listener. I hope people enjoy listening to it and interpreting it freely from various perspectives.

Were there any specific emotions, experiences, or moments in your life that influenced the sound or lyrics of this release?

SYA: Since this album was completed entirely based on my own story, I believe the events that happened throughout my life naturally had a strong influence.

Is there a track on the album that feels especially close to your heart—and why?

SYA: All of the songs feel very meaningful to me, but the track “LANDFILL” (매립지대) is the closest to my heart.

The album was originally almost titled “LANDFILL,” and the song contains stories about my experiences within the industry as well as my personal journey. I think listeners will have fun interpreting it in their own way.

Were there any challenges you faced during the album preparation process that helped you grow creatively or mentally?

SYA: There weren’t any major difficulties, but I spent a lot of time thinking about how I could best express and convey my own story.

Is there a side of SYA—musically or personally—that fans might be seeing for the first time through this solo album?

SYA: I think people will discover new sides of me—like realizing that I can explore these kinds of sounds and genres as well.

If someone is discovering SYA for the first time through this solo release, what would you want them to know about you?

SYA: I would be very thankful if they show interest in my music and activities.

Now that your solo journey has officially begun, what kind of artist do you hope to become moving forward?

SYA: Before being an artist, my biggest goal is to become a good person. I want to inspire others, and I also want to continue growing myself.

Lastly, do you have a message for your fans around the world who have been waiting for your solo debut and supporting you every step of the way?

SYA: Thank you so much for waiting for me. I would be very grateful if you give lots of love to my first full-length album [23:24].❤️
