When you see someone older than you, think, "he has done more deeds than me."
When you see someone younger than you, think, "he has done less sins than me."
The Obligation of Seeking Knowledge
Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab At Tamimi said:
Know, may Allah have mercy upon you that it is compulsory upon every Muslim to know these four issues.
العلم Al ‘Ilm: “Firstly, the Knowledge.”
العمل به Al ‘Amalu Bihi: “and the actions (working) by it.”
الدعوة إليه Ad Da’watu Ilaihi: “Calling to it.”
الصبرعلى الأذى فيه As Sabru ‘Alaal Adhaa Feehi: “and to have patience with the hardships that come along that path (in the way of da’wah).”
There was no prophet sent by Allaah to a nation before me, except that he had from among his nation disciples and companions who held onto his sunnah and followed his commands. Then after them came groups who said what they don't do & they do what they were not commanded to do. So whoever fights them by his hand, then he is a believer, and whoever fights them by his tongue, then he is a believer, and whoever fights them in his heart [by hating them], then he is a believer. After that, there is not a speck of imaan left.

"The action is not acceptable except by three: Taqwaa of Allaah, and good intention, and correctness (i.e. conformity to the Sunnah)"
Ibn `Ijlaan
How is it possible for one's heart to be certain that one is going to meet Allah, that Allah sees and hears all that he does, and knows his secret open affairs, and that he will be made to stand before Allah, answerable for all his deeds - how can one be certain and aware of all of this, and yet persist upon things which displease Allah; persist upon abandoning Allah's orders, neglecting His rights, and yet claim that he has good expectation of Allah?
Ibn qayyim al jawziyyah
"There is no such thing as being more Muslim or less Muslim"
Apparently the world doesn't understand what it means to be a Muslim or a believer. Nor do they understand the concept that faith cannot just lie in one's heart if it isn't followed through upon with actions. If your heart is in submission to Allah tabarak wa ta'ala, your limbs will be too. Yes, you believe Allah is the one and only God worth worshipping and Muhammad alayhis salato wasallam is His last Messenger, now what? Is that a free ticket to Jannah all of a sudden?Does your Lord not have any other rights but to be acknowldged of His ruboobiyah and khallas? Audubillah! What is Islam? What is a Muslim? Islam means submission to Allah and a Muslim is the one who submits himself, his dunyawi life, his desires, his opinions, his limbs, his voice, his thoughts, his everything all in the name of Allah. Is there no difference between the one who believes with his tongue and the one who believes with his limbs? Linguistically, there is no definition which would tell you that a Muslim is someone who simply believes in Allah and His Messenger. There's conditions on even 'lailaha illallah' yet people seem to think it's a no obligation deal with Allah! When you think about it through that definition, isn't the one who obeys Allah more on the commands given out the one who submits himself further, henceforth making him a better Muslim? Being a Muslim is an act, not just a state of belief and therefore, just like any other verb/adjective, there are degrees to being a Muslim as well. I can be generous if I give a dollar away to charity, but aren't I even more generous if I'm giving ten? I can be a doctor but does getting that degree hold everyone who shares it at the same level or are there better doctors or not? Yes, there is a scale which measures how much in submission you are according to your deeds and it isn't just a metaphorical concept, it will be brought forth on yawn ul Akhirah too. Last time I checked, the angels weren't recording the firmness of your imaan in your heart, they record your actions which reflect your state of imaan. I'm not mentioning this to make my brothers and sisters feel bad about their state of imaan (though guilt can often be a blessing and helps us stay in check), I'm trying to clear up a very common misconception amongst the ummah where people apparently find it so easy to declare that being a Muslim is sufficient in your heart. May Allah forgive you and I for our misdeeds and wrongdoings. Ameen.
I would travel for days to a man to hear [knowledge/hadîth ] from him, and the first thing I would check about him is his prayer: if he performed it properly I would stay and hear [knowledge] from him, but if he neglected it, I would return without hearing from him, and I would say, ‘He will be even more neglectful of other matters.’
