When most people think about deadly terrorists, they probably think about ISIS.
While the Islamic State may be absolutely vicious, there’s one group that’s outdoing even them in murder.
The group, Boko Haram, is based in Nigeria and operates in the same brutal fashion as ISIS:
NBC News New York has more details on why Haram is deadlier:
The Nigerian militant group, which has pledged allegiance to ISIS, has been tied to nearly 11,000 killings as of mid-December, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.
More than half of those deaths have been the direct result of the group’s suicide bombings and armed raids. The rest died from fighting between the group and Nigerian troops.
Just like ISIS, Haram has a penchant for targeting anyone who does not adhere to their twisted system of beliefs:
In January of 2015, Haram massacred about 2,000 Nigerians with RPGs and assault rifles.
A defense official fighting against Haram told the Guardian:
“The civilian fighters gave up on trying to count all the bodies. No one could attend to the corpses and even the seriously injured ones who may have died by now.”
The militant Islamists pledged allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in March of 2015. Haram reportedly controls an area around the size of Belgium.
