O Titiana:(sharing a kiss)
He hardly remembers his holidays, there’s precious few Christmases that weren’t a crushing disappointment. All he could remember wanting more than anything in the world was to have the kind of Christmas they showed on television. The happy family gathered around the dinner table laughing in their holiday best, the kids running down the stairs to a tree surrounded by presents. The funny thing was he didn’t even care about the gifts. All he wanted was for Christmas to be a family thing. He wanted Dean and Dad to wait for Santa Claus with him, wanted to see the looks on their faces when he handed them their presents. It made holidays difficult, half the time he almost forgot that Christmas and all that other stuff existed.
It usually took a storefront packed full of Snowmen and colorful lights to make him realize that it was that time of year again. In that way, at least, this year hadn’t been different. He’d forgotten just like he had last year and the year before. Only remembering when they’d rolled into the next town and the locals were setting up for what looked like a festival. There were lights everywhere and wreathes hanging from every streetlamp.
He half wondered if now that Aiden was here, whether he should make some sort of effort or not. It seemed like a waste to be staying in a small hunting lodge overlooking a lake, snow collecting in white drifts on the ground. Like some cardboard copy of every Lifetime and Hallmark Christmas movie ever aired on television.
In the end all he can manage by Christmas Eve is a sad little mistletoe hanging from the ceiling above the doorway and some hot chocolate. He wishes he had a gift, or that he’d managed to decorate some more, but the smell of hot chocolate feels like a present all by itself when they come back from outside. Dusting snow off their clothes and kicking off their boots. He turns to help, brushing some snowflakes from her hair, offering her a smile.
“Merry almost Christmas.” He hesitates a moment, a second to take in the look on her face, the color of her eyes. Before he leans in the rest of the way and presses a kiss to her lips.
