development questions.
1. what position does your character sleep in?
he typically sleeps on his side or stomach, sometimes curled into the fetal position ( i’m getting this from canon ). as far as why he sleeps like that... well, it’s said that people who sleep in the fetal position are typically “tough on the outside, soft on the inside,” which kind of holds true for sherlock ( he’s not really what i’d call ‘soft on the inside’ but he has his soft spots ). but as far as the common saying about people who sleep on their sides with arms parallel -- they’re sociable, easygoing, and “want to run with the a-list” -- that is obviously not true. i think if he had a reason for sleeping on his side it would be more that he’s always turning away from people.

9. do they dream; what about?
if asked, he would probably say he doesn’t dream. but he does. i think most of his dreams are about the past: john walking into the pool room with the bombs strapped to him, the old woman who was blown to pieces, moriarty ( on the roof especially ), irene adler, redbeard ( though i subscribe to a particular theory about redbeard that is way too long to get into here ), but i think a lot of his dreams are probably focused in and around what he endured in his two years of running around trying to destroy moriarty’s ring. all the torture he had to undergo and how utterly alone he was. after that -- being shot is probably one that has him waking up in the middle of the night. wondering if john is safe with mary.
