Alexander had left Poe to fend for himself at the front counter so Alex could put away some of the books that had been returned. Quite frankly, Alexander simply wanted to be away from everyone, so the task of lugging books all over the building didn’t seem so bad to him. As he continued to place them on the shelves, he tried to ignore the other standing nearby who’d been there for quite some time. Alexander was aware he probably needed help but he was simply hoping he could get away with not asking if he’d like it. And he almost got away with it until the other walked up to him. “Can I help you with something?” Alex tried his best not to sound annoyed but he was pretty sure he was failing at it.
