this is free advice for anyone else with a mother who likes to pull a "yeah, she doesn't want to give me grandchildren" in front of other people to try and shame you for not wanting kids
if you hit 'em back with a very genuine, "yeah, she's really disappointed i won't let her use me like a broodmare," then EVERYONE gets to be uncomfortable about someone else being mad they can't use your body for their own wants <3
it did take a few repetitions until i finally progressed to, "yeah, she's really sad i won't let her pimp me out as a broodmare," but it did eventually make her stop completely
so y'know
when in doubt, wreck the vibe for everyone

i guess you could say this is their first ‘official meeting’ after 7n7 got hired
(in this au they never knew each other in the past)
BONUS former ragebaiter becomes the ragebaited, what a twist
i have been thinking quite a bit about the way in which names are given and used in Project Hail Mary. Astrophage is given its name through exactly what it does. The Hail Mary ship being the world's last chance. Planet Adrian is given its name through the human practice of naming great things after those we love because what is love if not discovery.
I'm thinking about Eva Stratt, her last name literally the beginning of the word Strategy- who is ruthlessly and strategically saving the world because they do not have the time for the tricky and complicated nature of human nature to deliberate and second guess.
A scientist with a special gene who, in her eyes, ends up being her literal saving grace. A scientist, a last resort, who in her eyes, she was giving the opportunity to do great things, because his saving grace would be his intellect and his investment in the pursuit of knowledge.
Ryland Grace, referred to mostly as Grace for what are obvious reasons, being the personification of his name. A teacher. A scientist. Professions where the idea of giving someone grace - as in allowing for mistakes, forgiveness, patience, showing mercy and compassion etc is not only important but necessary. Of extending that same grace to oneself as he would to others. A man who has fucked up. Pushed everyone away. Is a coward. Finding someone who displayed kindness and compassion towards him becoming someone that he'd do anything for.
Rocky being his saving grace. Figuratively. Literally.
Grace being Rocky's saving Grace. Literally. Figuratively.
The idea so heavily presented throughout the book, so much so that when the same context arises again, where Ryland Grace battles with turning away from his Earth knowing with certainty that he is going to die this time, he does so this time cognizant and of his own accord.
His investment. His pursuit. His everything that Stratt knew he'd be because despite her seemingly callous disposition, she was strategic in choosing him.
"..just calling to say goodnight" trend with ex husband!toji nsfw. petnames, afab!reader.
The phone didn't ring for long; not before a gruff "Yeah." was heard from the other side, along with some rustling. You muted to contain your laughter. It's been almost a year now since you called him just because. Toji sighed, "Hello? Don't start your bullshit again, doll."
And there's the notorious pet name that he absolutely refuses to drop. Unmuting yourself, you replied. "Hi, Toji. Yeah um-" you muted again, a giggle slipping through. "Yeah I just wanted to call."
Toji went silent for a moment. "Yeah? For what?" Toji hesitated, "If it's about megs, I did not send him to school with medicine in his backpack - swear."
You clicked your tongue. "What? What the hell are you talking about? I was just calling to say goodnight." He responded with more rustling, which sounded as if he were readjusting himself in bed. "To say goodnight." He repeated in a monotone voice skeptically. "You called me outta nowhere just to say goodnight?" This is where you initially were gonna end the video and hang up, but he continued.
"Listen baby, y'know if you miss me I'm always here." He said in a low tone. "Don't gotta make somethin' up just to hear my voice doll. I damn sure missed hearing yours." You heard a faint grunt. "Cmon, talk to me mama."
