🗡️ - Jenner hadn’t forgotten about it - not since they left he had had proper night of sleep - without concern a hand might come and grab him, as if a part of him during his sleep still believed they were locked in that facility, exposed. They were broken, all of them. Where ever they would wander, the burden of NIMH followed. The only fuel that kept Jenner going, was to become STRONGER than any threat of theirs.

🗡️ - He laughed with his shoulders at the qualifications stated. Yet, who else would be the fittest to a top secret job from the patriarch than the next in order? And cunning. Jenner recognized the feature in himself well. Who else would have fit perfectly to the picture than Jenner?

The rat was infamous since his arrival to the laboratory. The big dark one, he recalled them addressing - whenever it was his turn to get the daily doze of the injections. Jenner was physically big, fearless rat when it came to deal humans and large animals - had he been later handled with thick gloves by laboratory assistants. Satisfaction, when he felt their hands trembling after formerly inexperienced newbie had failed to grasp his neck scruff, only once.

❝ Unfortunately? I suppose you mean, fortunately. I am happy you still trust in my skills, Nicodemus. Anything for the colony. What level of cunning is required? ❞ Jenner asked, hands behind his back, his chin lifted up in pride.

🗡️ - His ear twitched at the question, oh, he couldn’t help but think: - would the same have ever asked from Nicodemus? Man whose ideas everyone seemed so fond of - despite lack of solid proofs. Jenner himself considered himself to be the second patriarch of the colony, right below Nicodemus, the leader of rats.

The two notable figures since the forming day of their union had slowly driven apart by differing views about the colony’s future - one seeking freedom, another seeking to keep building what they already had. Had he sought to be the next in line, it seemed the elder in rule had found a younger, more naive heir to his throne. Well, as long as Jenner stood in good health, he would push the views towards more rational direction. Yet, another travel through wilderness, in search of a land there were no other proof existing than the leader’s word - was foolish!

❝ Are you questioning your superior, Brutus? ❞ With sharpness, he turned, arching his brow at the younger rat. A soft grunt in his throat, he eventually hid his bared teeth. Brushing away the irritation. ❝ We’re heading out. Before sun rises. ❞

🗡️ - Dark head of a rat peers over the wheel of a boat towards the dock. A dog, could it be a guard at the harbor, going to tattle about him to the humans? Unfortunate, his men have already scattered around the harbor, leaving Jenner alone for a while to observe one of the boats which seemed to be possible for a rat group to dispatch. Not that he was afraid, despite the greater size and awfully strong jaws, all over 20 rats together would have easily chased the meddling hound away.
