Top Metal Albums of the 80′s - #37

Unpopular opinion time: I never really liked this song. I starts off with a bass solo, but generally solos are places for showing off, and there’s not much technical proficiency demonstrated here. Granted, the song does get better once the drums enter, but not enough to overcome the basic logical fallacy: that if there’s a solo, the player must be really good. Now, I’m not saying that Cliff Burton isn’t a good bass player, but that the proclamations like “best bassist ever” or even “best metal bassist ever” are significantly over-exaggerated and often the result of nostalgic thinking after his untimely death.

Bottom line: it’s good, even entertaining, but overrated.
