What to expect from Thor: Ragnarok:
Unless you’re somebody who does not like a lot of jokes or action in movies, you will be having a lot of fun while watching it in the theatre. It is, however, questionable whether the movie stays as good off of the big screen. It comes down to fun/ jokes, colourful visuals and some action. While there were some great performances and some very interesting things to look at, the movie offers very little emotional or in other ways significant scenes. The plot is pretty empty, and there were a lot of things that don’t make a lot of sense once you think about them. The doctor strange scene feels like an intrusion into the rest of the film, only put in there to tie him into the rest of the universe. Almost an advertisement. Characters lack backstory, or have their backstory just kind of shoved in there to get back to the rest of the film. Loki isn’t as much ‘unpredictable’ as much as it seems like the writers just didn’t know where to go with him and settled on “banter and he needs to betray ppl but still be the good guy”. Thor suddenly became a lot dumber. And a few characters could have been taken in much more interesting directions than they were.
Now on to the more positive stuff, because like I said, you’re probably going to have fun watching this movie anyways.
Valkyrie is a very fun character! Unlike certain others, there’s a logic to how she behaves, tessa thompson gives a great performance and she is very enjoyable.
Hela is also pretty good, and there are some great fighting scenes with her. There are more interesting ways they coul’ve gone, but it’s ok.
It’s true that this film is a lot more colourful than other marvel movies! It looked really good overall, but I think the gladiator planet is the coolest.
Humor! There were some jokes I couldn’t appreciate, but there were some good laughs.
Now onto the things you might hate:
The g slur is used, br*cenat makes an appearance and there are many mentions of alcohol and alcoholism in there that some people might not want to see.
Conclusion: A lot of fun, but lacking in enough juicy story and plot to really love unless you already love the characters and are willing to spend a lot of time trying to make it seem like more than it is. I might just be pessimistic though and you might like it that much! Anyway I gotta go think about valkyrie some more
