“Fancy seeing you here,” Lily quipped, walking up to Avery with a single champagne flute in hand. “Don’t worry, I’m only drinking in moderation. I know I’m technically on the clock tonight,” she assured her older sister, giving her a quick hug then giving Maya a kiss on the cheek. “You both look beautiful, as always. Are you having a good time thus far?” Lily asked, a bit nervously. Avery knew that she was the one spearheading the planning of the wedding and all related events, and although Lily generally had a good track record with her work she was always skeptical of feedback from people she knew super well. “Is Brady attending tonight? I haven’t seen her,” Lily asked fondly of her sister’s girlfriend, giving a smile to the elder Whittaker. “I’m glad you’re happy together, it looks good on you.”

Lily enjoyed being an aunt - she got to spend time with Grace, but then leave at the end of the night to retreat to her own space. “Hey, Gracie,” Lily greeted her niece as she walked through the door, scooping the toddler up in her arms and giving her a big kiss on the cheek. “I brought something for your Mommy, wanna give it to her?” Lily asked, handing a small bag of cookies to the toddler that she had gotten from Sweet as Sugar, iced sugar cookies in the shape of hearts for Valentine’s Day. “Love is still in the air - including from your baby sister. How are you today?” Lily asked, sliding onto one of the bar stools in the kitchen as her niece handed the cookies to her mom. “Need help prepping breakfast?” Lily asked, looking around at the kitchen. “Or I could just make us some coffee - unless you’re not really feeling for that this morning?” Lily knew that a lot of stuff had happened at the gala where Avery was concerned, but she wasn’t about to bring it up unless her sister did first.

valentine’s day charity gala

Lily was still in shock that her parents had actually complimented her that night, not only on her outfit but on the event itself. She wasn’t the driving force behind it, but definitely had a hand in the planning and advising aspect. She knew that Avery was supposedly staying home that night and, while Lily was not surprised in the slightest, she also wished that she had her sister with her tonight. The family obligations always suited Avery much better than they suited Lily. Smiling for yet another photo with her parents, the young woman turned around and saw an all too familiar face.

“You... you came,” Lily stated in disbelief, giving her sister a quick hug. “I thought I’d have to do all the schmoozing with Mom and Dad’s associates on my own tonight. Gulliver is getting drinks,” she informed Avery, carefully omitting the name of the other friend with whom she came that night. “And I’m kind of relieved, I thought I’d have to endure the formal part on my own. I just want to dance and enjoy the party.”
