completely done with abled people.
Malicious Pity
okay so the trend of people painting the people they dont like as mentally ill is more prevalent than i thought. maybe there should be a term for this because i like to think of it as "concern trolling" (due to the fact that people feel entitled to label others as mentally ill because OF COURSE THEY dont hate mentally ill people, so by virtue of calling others mentally ill they magically dont hate those people anymore)
but im aware the term "concern trolling" is used in a broadly different context. so by my logic maybe i can call it "malicious pity"? a fitting oxymoron, i suppose, for the oxymorons (not implying theyre stupid, just self-contradictory) that wield it. the hallmark of this tactic is that it reaffirms ableism by positioning the powerful and strong as also morally good, which, blah, boring, but i guess i couldnt expect better
if youve ever said someone "needs therapy" or told them to "get help" or something. first of all, therapy only helps people help themselves. second of all, i am no longer taking you seriously with anything in regard to mental health.
hi! i saw that youre a t8 paraplegic, and as someone (able-bodied) who has two paraplegic characters (one’s t8 and the other is l3, both incomplete) i was wondering if youre open to me asking some questions about chronic pain and also how to navigate life in general with a spinal cord injury. i understand if you dont have the energy or time to answer me though, please dont feel pressured to answer.
I’d be happy to answer questions, as long as you’re okay with me answering them publicly!
I should note, though, that I’m by no means an expert. My experiences are not universal, and that may not make me the best resource, depending on what you want to know. I’d be happy to share/link resources I’m aware of, though, even if I don’t have personal experience.
Also, I don’t know jack about chronic pain, because I don’t have any. :)
The representation of disability in media
No Shame Day 2k15! I’m a genderqueer T8 paraplegic, martial artist, and all around badass.
Seven years in a wheelchair and I’m just finally getting to the point where I’m not just okay with being disabled, I’m proud. I sit lopsided and my body doesn’t work right, my shoulders always hurt from pushing myself around, and I always wear pants (even in summer), because I hate showing my legs to people.
But it’s nice outside today and I’m too happy to care, so fuck it. Here I am!
