Sam really did hope that he’d be able to get over the adjustment period, that he’d feel less nervous and less scared around the new people. Although… he had a feeling that might not be so easy. At least he could hold out a little hope, a little hope that the people he didn’t know would become less scary over time. Maybe he’d just stick with Kevin. Kevin seemed nice. He was friendly, he didn’t seem scary. Yeah. He’ll stay with Kevin.
❝I worked real hard for my body and I don’t really… let myself have cheat days.❞ Sam shrugged lightly. It didn’t seem that invasive or nosy, Sam was used to far worse questions being asked or him being prodded for answers that he didn’t want to give. Kevin was polite, he was apologetic. Sam liked that. He liked Kevin.
A small but nervous smile tugged at the corners of Sam’s lips, hoping that the jacket thing would go over well. He hadn’t meant to be weird about it but Kevin looked cold and he didn’t have a jacket on, and it was getting pretty dark. It always got colder as the night went on and he didn’t want that for Kevin. He was pretty used to the cold himself, though he had no idea about the other boy. Hopefully he’d learn a few things while they were out together.
As they rounded the corner and towards Pops, Sam had to take a minute to give it a once over. It looked nice, it looked pretty retro and that was exactly Sam’s kinda style. Hands pushed into his pockets as they walked and he gave a little duck of his head in thanks when Kevin held the door open for him. What a gentleman! He kept close to Kevin, following him to the booth and sitting himself down.
It was hard to miss Kevin’s little outburst and his brows furrowed a little, elbows resting on the table. ❝What’s up, dude?❞
Kevin nodded. ❝It is a very nice body.❞ He couldn’t help saying. He smiled a little, cheeks flushed lightly. Sam seemed like the kind of guy that would take it as a compliment and not get weirded out. ❝I get it. I didn’t always … look the way I look. It takes a lot of hard work to maintain the human body. I mean, I’m no – ❞ He waved his hand, gesturing to Sam’s body, ❝ – this. I can’t give up the cheese fries, to be honest.❞ He chuckled softly.
He slipped the jacket actually on. ❝I hope you don’t mind … ❞ He said, even though Sam clearly didn’t or he wouldn’t have given up his jacket. ❝It’s almost too cold for a milkshake. Almost. You deserve a cheat evening since you’ve been attempting to adjust to the strange social climate of Riverdale.❞ He smiled wide at Sam. It had been awhile since he’d felt so comfortable around someone. He was usually on guard, usually had lots of walls up, even around his friends. Sam felt different.
He sighed softly. ❝Just … my friends are flaking on me.❞ He admitted. ❝Betty and Jughead are working on an article for the school paper. I just think it’s funny how she cut my advice column from the paper and still brings up how hard it is so get content. But anyway – ❞ He said trying to cut back on the bitterness. He didn’t need to turn Sam away from his friends when he was in desperate need of some decent people to hang out with. ❝They’re pretty cool otherwise. I’ll introduce you tomorrow at school.❞
