“Are you sure you should be here, kid?” Ludo’s a grown woman, certainly; but in the midst of the chaos, she looks incredibly small, unassuming, even - despite his own knowledge, telling him she was far more entrenched in nefarious affairs than she’d willingly admit. “Why don’t we take a walk, get some fresh air? Or head onto a balcony - can’t breathe in these places, especially not in a suit. The Governor, albeit looking dapper, is too pleased with himself to understand what’s coming. But I suppose if I had a million dollar smile and was walking with a large stick, I’d ignore the warning signs, too.”

     “Excuse me, do you have a lighter?” Phoenix wasn’t particularly interested in smoking, even though he always had a pack on hand; but a proposition for a light, was the easiest avenue for conversation. In the simmering July heat, his clothes felt sticky against his skin - but the club was even warmer, and he wasn’t interested in anything but leaning against the brick wall outside; aside from engaging the person nearest to him, in nosy conversation. She had a familiar face, but Phoenix had nearly met more beautiful women, then he had parental issues - she could be a model, a socialite, a friend’s ex; he claimed no acquaintance, beyond the friendliness he now displayed. “I got offered a glass of rum in there, of all things - what kind of fucking rock, has that bartender been living under?” 

   It was as impossible to avoid talk of the events two weeks prior, as it was to not love women over forty five, and Mcflurry’s - he, along with the rest of the city, relished pouring over the details, hoping to uncover something the senseless NYPD could not. “I’ll spare you some cheesy line, so I can know your name - I’m Phoenix, and the pleasure, is all mine.”
