“Chloe.”

Connor had deliberately waited until he’d caught a glimpse of the sun to speak. He had rested during the night, but not much. It had just never been part of his program to really do that and because he hadn’t reason to adapt to that particular human habit it had just gone entirely past him that it was something he even could do.

“Do you think we can get back to Kamski’s house unnoticed? He would have noticed you’re gone, wouldn’t he?” Worrying was usually always first on his list. Before deviating he had called it ‘focusing on the task at hand’. Now he had just been quiet for hours, so he felt like it was okay to start speaking about his worries again.

For more than an hour Connor had been standing in front of a mirror in an abandoned house looking at the LED flashing at his temple. He moved his fingers over it, tried to cover it imagining it wasn’t there. He’d seen that with other deviants and admired how human they looked. But why bother? He wasn’t human; neither of them were. He slammed his fist into the mirror, hearing it crack but fortunately it didn’t break entirely. He had been spending too much time on his own this time. It was the safest thing to do, but he was going out of his mind. The only name coming to mind was Chloe.

He knew where to find her. New Jericho hadn’t been hard for him to find in the first place, but the problem was that he wasn’t safe there either. He’d tried to reach out, but had ended up running. He understood why they wouldn’t let him in and now he feared they saw him as a threat because he knew their location. That was why it was with utmost caution he had roamed the area looking for Chloe until he finally saw her.

“Chloe,” he called although making sure not to be too loud. “I’m so glad to have found you. I... I didn’t know where to look if I didn’t find you here.” Turning to deviancy at least hadn’t taken his tracking skills from him, but even an android designed to find his targets could hit dead ends.

“I don’t tire, Chloe.” The words were said in a tone that only confirmed what the other android was saying. Even androids needed a break from time to time and especially after breaking through his coding making him aware of needs just as well as tasks Connor had definitely been overworking himself on a close to constant basis. The result now was a snarky attitude.

“I’m fine,” he then said, a bit friendlier than before although that really didn’t say a lot. “The sooner I’m done with this, the sooner I’ll be able to stop worrying if they’re going to replace me.”

“Don’t look at me like that!”

It was hard to tell where exactly this was coming from. The anger was explosive and the signs had already been there for more than a few moments now. The way his eyes had darted toward any sudden sound and movement, the way his LED had constantly been flickering and shifting between blue and yellow. 

It wasn’t Qs fault that he was like this, but his presence was enough for Connor to just direct the anger right at him. He stared him down for a long moment, but then suddenly moved again, kicking an empty chair over with great enough force that one of the legs fell off as it hammered into the closest wall.

“You knew exactly what I was getting myself into, didn’t you?” He wasn’t as angry with Q for not telling him about a certain case he had been assigned as he was angry for being assigned. They all knew he shouldn’t be handling cases involving deviants now. He was too vulnerable. Now the LED finally started flickering red. “And you didn’t think to tell me! I could have gotten people killed and you didn’t stop me!” This time he slammed his fist down the desk he was standing at.

It had been a sudden move on Connors part and the result was that he was now pining Q against the wall. His LED was rapidly flickering, shifting between yellow and red due to the overwhelming sensation he was feeling. It had just been few touches, not even intense ones, that had caused it. And now he just couldn’t let it go.

“What did you do to me?” This was new to him. He didn’t recognize what he was feeling and he wasn’t sure he could even blame Q. What he did know was the fact that whatever it was made it impossible for him to let go of him.

“You don’t get it,” Connor said, shaking his head. “I’m past the point of simulating. It’s real, Cayden. To me it’s real.” He knew how this sounded and he knew just how this was something he had once insisted was a fault in the system. When he was a deviant hunter he simply hadn’t been listening to it. Now he properly understood. “I know I’m not one of them, but I feel like they do. It’s complicated.”

“Oh sorry!” The blonde exclaimed as she had bumped into someone. She noticed the small desk on the side of its temple realising it was an android. “Sorry I didn’t see you there.” She smiled warmly up at him. (Ariel)

It was always a nice change when people actually apologized for bumping into him. Sadly it wasn’t always the case, but it also wasn’t something Connor made a big deal out of. He just didn’t bother calling humans out for being rude. Her smile was returned. “It’s okay. I could have just taken a step back.” He could, but he had been too occupied looking at a dog walking by on the other side of the street. Simple pleasures.

”Help me! Someone’s been following me for over twenty minutes now, I can’t shake him!”

Instantly Connor was hit with a wave of protectiveness over the information Chloe gave him. He pulled her closer to move in front of her, just in case whoever was following her was near. He wanted to stand in the way so he could protect her. “Do you have any idea who it could be?”
