Saltwater dripped from her face, the sting breaking her trance. One hand wiped it away as she straightened herself, and then tried to locate the creature again from a safer distance. Her eyes caught the glimmering red tail several yards away, and though she doubted it could hear her, or even understand her, she called after it.

“What was that for?”
