Toledo-Spain

City and municipality of Spain, capital of the province of Toledo and the de jure seat of the government and parliament of the autonomous community of Castilla–La Mancha. Toledo was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 for its extensive monumental and cultural heritage.

MONUMENT TO THE DISCOVERIES, LISBON, PORTUGAL (October 26, 2017) Our city tour of Lisbon took first to Padrão dos Descobrimentos or the Monument to the Discoveries, which celebrates the Portuguese Age of Exploration during the 15th and 16th centuries. Situated along the river where ships departed to trade with India and the Orient, the monument represents a small sailing ship constructed by the Portuguese to explore the Atlantic Ocean. Leading the vessel is Prince Henry the Navigator, and behind him are other great Portuguese voyagers. At the foot of the monument is a magnificent marble mosaic of a compass with a world map in its center. I immediately located the Philippines in the map; after all, we were discovered by Portuguese explorer, Ferdinand Magellan. Next stop, the BELEM TOWER.
