“ Rori ? Are you hurt ? ” Adrian called out upon seeing his best friend planted on the ground as he returned with one of their friends. They’d known one another long enough for him to tell, even from a distance, that she was in pain. Immediately ending his prior conversation with a wave of dismissal, he crossed the campsite to kneel beside her. “ Hey, hey, what happened ? ” he asked without any of his usual bravado.

“ no, no, no, ” juliette nearly shouted, unbuttoning her blazer to cover a binder. “ these pages aren’t laminated yet. i can’t run a presentation without proper paperwork ! ” after a glance around, she noticed a familiar face. “ you ! i know you. ” in some convoluted way, didn’t she ? her roommate’s brother’s friend or something like that. “ do you have an umbrella ? ”

“ Rori ! ” he complained from outside her door, already a few glasses of scotch in and not particularly caring about waking her roommates. “ I lost my keycard and I’m hopelessly bored.”

“ C’mon, Ror, ” Adrian whined. “ Just spend this one shift with me, I beg of you. I’ll even give you... ” With a flourish, he presented a large waffle cone from behind the counter. “ Any flavor of your choice. How can you say no to ice cream and this face ? ”
