"I don’t believe life is equally unfair for everyone, so it’s still not fair. Life is unfair for everyone in that it doesn’t play by rules designed to give everyone an equal chance at anything and it has no regards for anyone’s feelings. Some people are born into a life where it’s easier to get around obstacles and moments of life’s unfairness and others are born into lives where it’s harder.”

“You can make a hit hurt without being particularly strong if you use the right methods, so it could be either. Or both. Or neither. Life is full of grey areas, and there’s many shades between weak and strong.”

“Any friend or my parents, I guess. We don’t have to drink it at the same time and reenact a romcom scene, so I wouldn’t be too picky. My mom, my dad, Michelle, Minjung, Saebyul, Yena... even a trusted staff member. Anyone I could trust not to spit in it or something.”

“Rioh’s a great, sweet guy, but he was born too late and we met too early for us to ever go on a date. I’m still flattered he was ever interested in me like that, but I wouldn’t ever be able to shake that he was a kid when we met. But if he ever needs a wingman to land a date with someone else, I’ll do my best to do the job.”

“I like people who know who they are, but are open-minded. People with a narrow worldview are hard to get along with. Also, people who have something they’re truly passionate about are far more magnetic than those without, to me. It doesn’t matter what it is, whether it’s science-fiction books or stamp-collecting or activism.”

“What do you mean by if I could? Legally or socially? Because being able to break my contract and leave the group is one thing, but being able to escape the wrath of millions of fans being pissed with me for turning my back on the group is something else entirely. No consequences, easy out today, sure, I probably would. Then I’d sleep for about a year straight.”
👀 + could you ever see yourself settling down?
“In a pure life sense, where I pick one place and make my ‘home’ there, probably. I want to travel and experience everything the world has to offer, but I can see myself years down the line, hopefully finding a place to call home after that. Romantically? Probably not. I mean, who would I be settling down with? I don’t know. I don’t want to close the door on the idea of me being a changed person, but right now? That’s not something I see when I look into the future. At best, I see some hard-to-envision, blurry picture of settling down with myself.”
👀 + is there anyone you consider to be "the one that got away"?
“That’s... complicated. Are there people I believe I could’ve had more or longer with if life had been different? Yes. Are there missed opportunities I can’t help but wonder about? Also yes. But, for the former, they weren’t going to work out in the long run anyway and, for the latter... it’s better to have missed opportunities and still have someone in my life. ‘The one that got away’ infers regret for not doing something different. I don’t know. I’m trying to get better at accepting my past and acknowledging I can’t change the things I’ve already done. Saying there was a ‘one that got away’ for me would contradict that, wouldn’t it?”

“So, basically the worst life I can imagine, barring any actual tragedies happening to me or my loved ones? And my physical wellbeing isn’t at risk? I think I’d be miserable as an office worker, so maybe living life working some boring nine to five job at some corporation in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere without any friends or family would be pretty terrible. A life without meaning to me or to anyone else. Not to say that that life couldn’t have meaning for someone else, but to me, it’d feel like I was doing nothing that meant anything to anyone — that my existence was entirely pointless because no one cared for me or what I was doing, and my life was devoid of any true experiences that would make an impact on anyone.”

“...No? I don’t think this is controversial or weird to say, but I’m just not sexually attracted to myself, much less enough for sex with my clone to be a top priority if I met one. I’d be more worried about how someone successfully cloned me and what that means for me.”

All of my music is important to me as a person. It’s one of the only way I feel like I ever really work through things or get to know myself better. “Expiration Date” is a big one. I really had to self-reflect on that one. Polaris had been barreling forward at full speed up to that point and I didn’t often get to really reflect on how I felt about it. At the time, it felt selfish to admit that I was scared it wouldn’t last, but I wanted to be honest on my debut solo album instead of sugar-coating the feelings I had experienced too much. I didn’t know if I’d ever get another solo album, so I wanted it to represent me. My feelings aren’t the same now as they were then, but it still resonates with me like I wrote it yesterday.
