her father has found some stability now thanks to some assistance from daria herself, but some people closest to her worry that she’s stretched thin between working two jobs to make ends meet and taking care of her dad. and yet, she just flashes her prom queen smile and shrugs it off — she’s doing fine. or so she says.

chapter 1 ( wake up child ) : lucy was born in a family in the middle of mourning. the youngest of a slew of siblings, lucy never got to meet her father, as he’d died a few weeks before she and her twin sister had been born—although no one in her family ever made her feel bad for this in any way, she's always felt this hanging over her head in a weird way, as though she had to prove that she could cancel out the grief of the death of a man she'd only ever seen in pictures. ultimately, lucy was never made to please; that all went to her sister, ximena, the soft one, the gentle one, the complete opposite of herself.
chapter 2 ( don’t talk but i bite ) : the hardest thing lucy had to accept about herself was the guilt that came with not caring. she was barely cognizant, finding out that, despite the lack of father, despite the fact that her family missed a man she'd never met, lucy didn't. growing up with so many siblings, there would always be someone she could turn to, and although ximena seemed to have spread good will among all of their siblings, lucy, from an early age, bonded quite quickly and intensely, with her oldest brother.
chapter 3 ( the innocence of youth ) : santi, in many ways, was her hero. the one she looked up to, filling in for the father she never knew, as instrumental in raising her as much as her mother had been. since she was a child, whenever she had something to laugh or cry about, it’d always be with him. she refused to do homework unless it was santi who helped her, and no one could change her stubborn mind, not even her mother, and yet her oldest brother could melt through any tantrum with a simple sigh and utterance of her name.
chapter 4 ( break the machine ) : of course, with over a decade between them in age, ultimately santi would leave to find his own way in life. one by one, the house emptied of people, and the pressure of performance—specifically household expectations—started to land more and more heavily upon the twins’ shoulders. ximena took to it like she was born for it, but lucy experienced it like a large rock slowly crushing the spirit out of her. as soon as she had the capability, she left just as her siblings had done. for a few years, she remained in chile, a small time reporter, but one story launched her career, which took her all over south america, and eventually north america. but lucy has never been able to keep her mouth shut, and with an unfortunately developed sense of justice, she found herself going most after stories of negligence, or oversight, of corruption and greed. it's this exact path that got her caught in the worst situations.
chapter 5 ( with lives at stake ) : to say she's had near-death and traumatic experiences is an understatement. her work alone has turned her into a hard person, unafraid of even the things she ought be afraid of, with an immense self-confidence that she could handle anything anyone could throw at her. the one thing she hadn't been ready for had been the alarming voicemail her twin sister had left on her voice one evening. it had been unintelligible for the most part, and so lucy dropped everything to come find her, to check if she's okay, only to come to a house in new mexico empty of both her sister, her american husband, and their young child. with nowhere to really turn to and unable to just let this go, lucy would soon find herself in intercept, new mexico, where she knew her oldest brother was, to stay there while she uncovered what the hell might have happened to her sister.
