kneeling in the second to past pew in church, two girls dressed identically in their sunday best pass notes and muffle their laughter behind used prayer books, turning the steady drone of the priest’s sermon into a background melody for a world entirely of their own. minnie&clem, two names said so often together it had become like a single word. next door neighbors turned best friends. soulmates, if they believed in that type of thing. by age twelve that had shared everything there was to have to their names with each other. by sixteen, they had become two disparate beings. the kind and beautiful and enchanting minnie, so easy to love. she floated across the dance floor on pointe shoes and then in heels, drawing people to her like moths to a flame. everyone wanted to be friends with minnie, to be close to minnie, to be with minnie. but no one came as close as clem, who clung like a shadow. the one half a step behind, half a beat off. it was fine with her. who needed all the eyes in the world on her when she had minnie's to herself?
life changed forever in a single month. a handsome face new to town, breezing by and caught up in minnie's orbit like everyone else. a few nights away. a weekend out into the city. clem sitting alone on her bedroom floor waiting up as the clock ticks later and later. then, a pregnancy test. then two. three, just to be sure. an undeniable positive fourth. the boyfriend, if he could even be called that, is gone as quickly as he arrived. suddenly, minnie wasn't a star anymore. just a small town tragedy, a pretty girl who should have known better. someone to whisper about on the street, someone to avoid and ignore. it was okay, because clem was there. clem had always been there, ready to catch her as she fell. ready to figure out the baby's crib and the medical appointments and how to turn their shared apartment into a place for three.
kai was born with ten fingers and ten toes and a crinkly smile just like his mom's. although minnie doesn't take to motherhood the way she took to everything else in life, clem had never wondered for a moment if she loved the little baby sleeping soundly in her arms. from the first babble to the first steps, there wasn't anything clem didn't adore. it didn't matter what other people said, the snide remarks over her head, the mocking taunts whenever she went into town. a shadow taking care of someone else's baby. the girl chained by her own heart.
on a tuesday, minnie doesn't come home. late nights aren't a stranger to either of them, two girls without a college degree or a steady career. but then wednesday and thursday passed without a peep. no one in town had seen her in forever. minnie's existence had gone by without a blip since her pregnancy. it was like the whole town had forgotten what was once the center of their galaxy. the sun had been erased from their memory once they had stopped wanting her. but clem had never forgotten, could never forget. after a month of silence, a month of being waved away, a month into being forgotten, clem packed her bags and kai away into the back of the car and drove off. as she drove past desert landscapes and other towns and city skylines, clem threw away the past into the wind and reinvented herself. a new name, a new life, a new her.
it was meant to be a temporary stop, but sitting in the crappy motel room paid for in cash, surrounded by empty rooms and infrequent tourists and locals too busy trying to survive to give anything strange a second glance, she thought this was the chance to turn a new leaf. as far as anyone in this town is aware, nothing was amiss. the car? hers. the baby? hers. the name on the ledger, the one on her uniform name tag, the one people call for? hers. welcome to your new life, minnie daniels.

THIS BIO CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING TRIGGERS : religious trauma; abuse;
dixie has always had a personality far too big for the small town she was born in over in alabama. funny where she would end up, though astroland always made intercept seem a lot bigger than it is. she was one of several children born to a televangelist preacher and homemaker mother. dixie felt like her and her siblings all had different experiences in that house growing up. sure, some were shared but expectations were divided differently. especially when daddy was always way too controlling with her and her brothers were allowed to do whatever they wanted. it was all about appearances and outdated gender roles and appearing to be the perfect southern christian family at all times, even though dixie knew damn well the majority of her father’s flock didn’t practice what he preached behind the pulpit every sunday.
she grew up in a place where everyone knew your name and if you wanted your business to be your own, you kept your mouth shut and moved on. there were plenty of skeletons in the clary family closet. at first, though you wouldn’t believe it if you met her today, dixie was the quiet one in the family. took her almost two years to say her first word and she’d let her siblings do the talking for her, often following close behind one of her older brothers. mama had the perfect solution to help bring her out of her shell, one that benefited everyone. she started putting little dixie in beauty pageants long before daddy could have a chance to say no. by the time she was six years old she already had thirty-one crowns and twenty-nine trophies. some said mama was so hard on her because she was living the life she couldn’t through her. dixie wasn’t sure she agreed with that, she liked being in pageants and all the attention she got from them. mama was just trying to get her to live up to her full potential.
once dixie got older, she started to take a cut out of her pageant winnings whether her parents wanted her to or not. she saved all the pennies she could for the future. her dream was set on being on the big screen and performing for the whole world to see. which is exactly why when she was so willing to give into the guy at the mall who said he could help her get a promising modeling career. he had a portfolio of headshots, he had to be the real deal, right? well, she sure thought he was and she gave him all the money she had, packed a bag, and left with him in the middle of the night. she changed her last name from clary to duvall and at sixteen years old, left her home behind to head to los angeles to start her career. or so she thought.
intercept was only meant to be a stop. the man she’d come there with, jason, supposedly knew some people there and needed to drop some stuff there. then one day turned into another, then a month went by, he made her get a job to help pay for their motel room and before she knew it they’d been there a year and she wasn’t any closer to achieving her dreams. but when dixie questioned him, he started to get controlling and when she went against him he thought he could put his filthy hands on her. little did he know dixie had made friends of her own in intercept and she’s not quite sure what zairo silva did to jason, all she knows is she went to zairo with one black-eye in tears and jason hasn’t been seen since.
now dixie is stuck in this one horse town, dancing at the club and working at astroland still trying to find a way to book modeling jobs and work her way to los angeles to jump start her career. but money is hard to get in intercept and the jobs just aren’t easy to find. the most she’s gotten is promotional content and a few commercials. at this point she’s looking for anyway to achieve her dreams while living the best life she can with her friends and the family she’s found in new mexico.
✱ STRAIGHT FROM INTERCEPT: GABE OSORIO !

known to be CREATIVE, PASSIONATE, AFFECTIONATE, OPTIMISTIC, and DUTIFUL, but also ANXIOUS, SCATTERBRAINED, GULLIBLE, PASSIVE, and ESCAPIST, they have been in intercept ALL THEIR LIFE, currently working as a CASHIER at paradox comics & games and a VOLUNTEER at helping hands. apparently, they're JAY'S SIBLING.
Digging Deeper.
All the way back to the very beginning of Gabriel's memories they are filled with experiences at Adventureland and, later, Astroland. He remembers the sounds of the games, the whoosh of a roller coaster flying by, the smell of fried dough and french fries. He remembers chasing after his brothers, weaving through the crowds to get into lines and try to obtain the best seats on the rides. There were days where he was bouncing in his seat trying to finish up his homework at the kitchen table so he could run off to the park before it closed for a couple hours. The park was almost more familiar to him than home, because it was his home. At least, once upon a time it had been.
That June will forever be burned into Gabe's memory, the year Hector disappeared. It was only a week or so after he'd turned fourteen and he'd been so excited to finally start working beside his older brothers, even if he was only allowed a short amount of time and only certain roles at the park that were deemed 'safe'. But he didn't mind - all he wanted was to work the games alongside Hector and Jay, and how could working a games booth be unsafe? Especially if Jay was there. He had always looked up to the both of them (not only because he was shorter) and thought they were the coolest guys ever. He never did get the job.
But even worse, he never saw Hector again. He remembers Jay coming home late, voices raising and tinged with concern that drew him from his bed. Hearing that Hector had run away didn't make any sense because, as far as Gabe was concerned, there wasn't any reason he ever would. He refused to believe it, just as Jay did. But he was still young and barred from taking part in much of the search efforts, though he found his own ways to take part. He rode his bike around town as if he might find Hector or Jay's car set up on the side of the road somewhere waiting to be found.
When it was found it didn't come with any answers. If anything, it just left him with more questions. What was Hector doing there in the first place? Where did he go? Why? For a while he was solely focused on finding out, but with time and more dead ends, he eventually had to let it go. Money was tight and he had to start bringing some in, especially with Astroland seeming to be standing on it's last legs.
He started working at the local comic and games shop as a cashier. It didn't make a whole lot, but he enjoyed it - and he didn't ask for much, really. In his spare time he started lending his time to Helping Hands as well. Perhaps it was because he wanted to fill his hours with something useful - better than being lost within his own thoughts that inevitably went back to Hector time and again. And maybe he hoped one day he might see Hector there, and he could bring him home. It wasn't impossible that something happened, that he couldn't remember where he belonged, that he just needed a reminder. It wasn't impossible. Gabe would always be an optimist even in the most unlikely of situations, but as the years go by he knows, deep down, how unlikely it really is.

In his youth Gabriel explored a lot of different creative avenues. He tried many different instruments and had a talent artistically. Nowadays he can occasionally be caught playing guitar, but is typically to shy to play in front of people, let alone sing in front of people.
A dream would be to design a comic book and have it sell on the shelves of Paradox one day.
Gabe doesn't blame Jay at all for what happened to Hector. How could he? It certainly wasn't his fault. Giving over the car keys didn't make him disappear. But he does sometimes wonder why Jay gave up looking.

To say that Sora was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth would be a grave understatement. Her father never let her lack for everything and honestly, to some people it seemed like the universe favoured her. She was always popular among her peers, well-liked in school, a talented cheer leader. That being said she wasn't very bright and was a straight C student.
She's always been passionate about sports and has danced her entire life. She grew up rich and pampered but her father screwed over the wrong people and had to go on the lam, leaving his spoiled and barely capable daughter to fend for herself. Like her father Sora is morally grey. As long as the dollar is green she's morally flexible.
She's been here a few years now and is pretty settled She's a serial love em and leave em type. She gets bored easily and tends to have deeper friendships than relationships. She loves fashion and dressing up in ridiculous outfits. She's a regular at the thrift store.

Mingyu was originally born in Iksan, South Korea, where he spent most of his formative years. He was always a happy kid, a little defiant but overall a good kid with a healthy dose of curiosity and thirst for adventure. It wasn't uncommon for him to return home with scraped knees or bruises from playing too rough with his peers or simply falling off of things he shouldn't have climbed in the first place. He loved nature and especially animals - his father often joking he had to put Gyu on a leash to prevent him from running off to chase butterflies as a toddler. Maybe his parents hoped that one day he would learn from his choices to take on any dare he received from other kids to try things, but his willpower seemed endless and defied everything else. He wasn't top of his class, but he was well liked regardless. Maybe his infectious smile could convince even the strictest of teachers.
When Mingyu hit his teens, not much changed for him. However, things shifted within his family. His mother had always struggled with her mental health, but it seemed that she was getting worse every year, eventually rarely coming out of her room to eat or socialize. Mingyu's father picked up extra shifts to continue providing for his family and it caused fights more and more frequently between his parents. Then one day, things seemed to be looking up again - his mother came out of her room, dressed up nicely, offering to give Gyu a ride to school, which he happily accepted. It had been months since he had really gotten to spend time with his mother and he was eager to see her recovery. However, when he came home from school, his mother wasn't there. Nobody had seen her since that morning. In fact, nobody would see her for two whole weeks. That is when police knocked on their door to inform the family she had been found. Unfortunately, it hadn't been alive.
He wasn't sure who to blame - his father, his mother, himself? One thing Mingyu absolutely took from that experience, however, was that depression was far too powerful. And as he worked through his grief, a fear slowly took a hold of him. What if it was genetic? People had always told him he was a lot like his mother, but he refused to accept that he could ever end up like her. So instead he focused further on adventure, on travel, on anything that could continue making him enjoy life and make the best of it. Sadness would always get buried and ignored, until it was sort of forgotten. He refused to think about anything bad or negative, instead diving head first into as many new experiences as he could. Moving to the United States was only his first part of the plan. And naturally, with all the rumors, Intercept sounded like the perfect place for his next adventure, far away from anyone who knew him and his past.

THIS BIO CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING TRIGGERS : underage pregnancy; abortion;
maxxie moon was born in seoul, south korea, to an underage mother whose parents were strictly against abortion. despite the circumstances of his birth, his grandparents had been fully intending to take care of him. however, with the father out of the picture and the daughter’s reputation and marriageability on the line, the underage girl begged for them to send him away. after a lot of back and forth, the family settled on giving him up for adoption, deciding not to declare his status in case the orphanage refuses to take him in.
when he was still an infant, he was adopted by a korean-american family who were unable to have children of their own and were wanting to adopt a child. honestly his parents were pretty nice, hardworking people. and he even had an adoptive younger sister that he adored. they were just your average, middle-class american family. camping trips. his dad used to push him toward sciences and while he always had a natural knack for sciences and especially physics, he was just not into it. instead, maxxie always gravitated toward music and music is definitely an area he is exceptional in. they’ve always had an ear for music and from a young age was able to repeat harmonies or play notes by ear. at age four, they could play the piano at their church as though they had been playing for years. at age five, they added the violin to his repertoire. but their dream was to be a guitarist.
after a lot of begging, maxxie’s dad went out and bought him a ‘guitar’, even bragging that he bought the most expensive one there. but it was a bass (thanks dad!!!) maxxie was upset about it for like 3 minutes literally but then his best friend laughed and pointed out they could now start a band. so maxxie, his best friend willem, and his two other friends, benji and jude, started a band. they were called kid skeleton and went from lame boys practicing in the garage to actually being pretty impressive and well liked in the cozy confines of their school district. maxxie wrote all their music, played bass and often acted as back up vocals, william was their frontman, their and guitarist with his dashing looks and amazing voice, then there was jude who was a beast on the drums and benji on the keys. it was perfect. and maxxie was definitely very optimistic about their future but this flipped 180 degrees after graduating high school.
benji had gotten his high school sweetheart pregnant and suddenly had to focus completely on his new responsibilities as a father. he’s now working in a bank. william went to law school (hardly the anti establishment position he expected him to take) jude had gone out of state for college and that was that. suddenly the dreams they spent over a decade singing about had disintegrated into dust. his parents were pretty fucking livid when he broke down after that. he threw away the acceptance to MIT he received, having applied only to placate his parents and decided to fully throw himself into music.
it has not worked out for him, to say the least. despite all his talent, getting noticed among thousands hopefuls seemed impossible. eventually he decided to throw himself into music in a different way, through the local radio. so he just lives alone and drinks, and drinks and ponders the meanging (lessness) of life and rinses and repeats and wishes to wake up and be completely normal.

perhaps he was meant to be an outlaw, screaming his lungs out from the very second he opened his eyes. the eldest child of four in a small born in a dump somewhere in mississippi, he quickly learned that their father wasn’t fit to be the man his children deserved, with a very short temperament while their mother was more focused on keeping her husband’s eye from wondering than taking care of her own children. thus, he stepped up to be the man of the house far earlier than he ever had to. when his father came at one of the younger ones, screaming like hell, remi learned to scream right back – only louder. where was their mother? one may say god only knows, but the common man's god was far from this home.
he only became worse when his younger sibling was born, an unexpected pregnancy that resulted in complications, and their mother’s death. he grieved his mother, or what their relationship could have been – but he knew his siblings needed a protector now more than ever. he had to keep his head up, it couldn’t falter. he takes his siblings to and from school every day, prepares their meals, helps them with their homework when they don’t understand it. all the while, his father calls him worthless. nothing. that he’d never amount to anything, no matter how hard he tried. then came the blame aimed at his youngest child, for taking their mother from him. that was the first night remi lay hands on his father. he was bigger now, wasn’t he?
the first chance he gets, he does perhaps the last thing that his father expects from him: he joins the army. his siblings are old enough now to the point where they’re making something of themselves, or at least the other two can keep an eye on the youngest. most of his early twenties are spent training, working towards something, but he doesn’t quite know what yet. that is, until his first tour. by twenty five he’s overseas, sending money back to his siblings all the while. making sure their stable.
but in his late twenties — everything changes when he rescues a comrade in combat. when he wakes up in the hospital his left leg is gone, and while he’s being given a purple heart for his valor, he needs to be medically discharged. at this point it’s all he’s ever known, what his given his mind, body and soul to. and he couldn’t possibly have a next step that he’s able to take.
he appears aimless for a while, that is, until he finds himself embroiled with the vipers. it’s something — gives him some kind of protection in a universe that has been anything but kind to him and forced him to protect himself. his siblings ending up in intercept happened pretty gradually after that. at the end of the day, the ambrose siblings always seem to find each other.
Extras.
aries sun, virgo moon, capricorn rising. remi comes off as a very serious person, full of fire. and yet, he’s also logical in his thinking. he rarely ever acts impulsively, unless it comes to the people that he loves.
remi’s known he was gay since he was fourteen years old, but he struggled with it for some time considering his father’s view of what a man should be. he didn’t truly allow himself to come to terms with it until he left for the army, and is far more comfortable with himself — despite struggling to maintain intimate relationships outside of one night stands.
the way he dresses is incredibly functional. he dresses for his comfort and the physical work he does, but his real accessory is his tattoos. remi is heavily inked, each piece holding a particular meaning — from something deep and meaningful to getting a flash when he was drunk on a dare in his youth.

Aki has severe memory loss following a traumatic accident. She only remembers fragmented images of her mother—her laughter, smile, warmth, and small domestic moments. She constantly questions whether her memories are real or reconstructed from what others have told her. She struggles with her identity because she cannot remember much of the person she was before the accident.
Aki was born in Tokyo, Japan, to a single mother. Her mother became pregnant at 19 by a man unknown to Aki. She lost a promising singing career after becoming pregnant. Aki loved and admired her mother, always hiding her own pain so her mother wouldn't feel guilty. She grew up facing heavy social stigma as an illegitimate child. Frequently bullied at school and called names. Aki became fixated on befriending a beautiful, confident classmate, thinking it would solve all her problems. Instead, that girl became Aki's primary bully. The bullying became so severe Aki began avoiding school by pretending or causing herself to become ill. After noticing her declining grades, Aki's mother confronted her. Upon learning the truth, her mother reported the bullying to the school. The bully denied everything, claiming it was harmless play. Because the bully's family was influential, Aki was pressured to apologize instead.
When Aki refused, her mother apologized on her knees to protect her. Aki was devastated seeing her mother humiliated and resolved to stop being a victim herself. The next day Aki confronted the bully on the school rooftop. What happened remains unknown. Rumors claimed Aki attacked the girl or the girl tried to save Aki and accidentally fell. Both girls survived, but not without consequences:
For Aki this meant a coma, followed by nearly a year of rehab, as well as ongoing memory loss. But the other girl became paraplegic after breaking Aki's fall. Aki wakes to find her mother gone little memory of her former life. Instead, she meets a man claiming to be her father. This marks the end of her old life.
So now at 18, her father is revealed to be a successful record producer, living in America for work. After her recovery, he moves Aki from Japan to his quiet home in New Mexico, away from Los Angeles. He is frequently away for work, leaving Aki largely on her own with her pet rabbits.

Nova was born in 1970 in Seattle, Washington. Even from a young age, it was apparent that she was 'different', with almost zero interest in other people and being much more content living in a fantasy world, that was often based on the many books they consumed, ever since teaching herself how to read. She was a bit of a yapper, however, always eager to include her parents in make-believe scenarios with an ever-growing collection of plushies, each with their own name and backstory. While all of this was innocent enough, things didn't go as smoothly once Nova grew old enough to start going to school. It was from that moment on that they shut down, stopped speaking, no longer held that spark in her eyes and withdrew even more in the world of fiction. From the moment it became painfully obvious that they were not like the other kids, the pressure began.
Despite being extremely well behaved and a stickler for rules, Nova was constantly 'in trouble' for staying mute when being spoken to, actively avoiding eye contact and becoming increasingly more difficult when forced to participate in group activities. It didn't take long for other kids to pick up on them being the odd one out and for them to start bullying her. Nova tried not to be affected by their surroundings, instead fleeing in fiction as they always had, whether it was books or films, sometimes even music. However, it didn't take long for it to start affecting her mental health, all the while building a resentment towards her parents for reinforcing the idea that there was something wrong with her that she just needed to grow out of.
Naturally their self image was shaky at best, especially when they hit their most angsty teen years, where it became more and more tempting to step out of the reality they couldn't escape. However, Nova persisted, finding an outlet in writing their own stories. After all, if it was a fictional character dealing with the pain, they didn't have to do it.
After turning 21, Nova left Seattle and their parents behind to attend nursing school in Albuquerque, wanting to turn a new leaf and use their natural compassion and lived experience with mental health to pursue a degree as a psychiatric nurse. While it was originally quite confronting and difficult, they were able to graduate with their master's degree in hand, five years later. It was after that they took on a position at Genesis Medical Center.
Nova is still the odd one at times, generally lacking the ability to make small talk and hating most public spaces. She loves her job and somehow works extremely well in stressful situations, but she is always happy to come home and spend time with her pets and evergrowing bookshelf instead. People who do happen to wiggle their way past Nova's initial wall, will learn of her wit and sense of humor - an entirely different person from the one she presents to strangers. While it takes some effort to get them out of their shell, Nova is loyal to a fault and one of the most empathetic people you will ever meet.

THIS BIO CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING TRIGGERS : injury
frankie’s the youngest of four boys, who considers himself to be the black sheep of the family—and to be fair, nobody has ever made the effort to convince him otherwise. he’s fully aware that he ended up disappointing every single one of his parents’ expectations with where his life is at right now and most of the time, he thinks he’s over it. frankie’s mom and dad are both retired doctors, his three older brothers all made big careers for themselves, doctor, lawyer, banker—there’s one of each, out there in the big cities, with wives and kids and things to be proud of. frankie was gonna go ahead and aim high too—maybe he wasn’t all that book smart at school but he was the star quarterback who won their team a fair share of games, which got him a football scholarship in california. it was going to be his ticket out of intercept, something he’d dreamt of for the longest time. there was pressure at home, to be perfect and deep down frankie knew he was not gonna fit whatever the hell his mom and dad had in mind for him. leaving meant freedom to do as he pleased and once the scholarship was secured, graduation couldn’t come soon enough
he got into UCLA, didn’t declare a major at first, toyed around with the idea of social sciences or psychology but held back with making a firm decision. football became his main focus—it’s why he was there after all. he was at practice or the gym practically 24/7, doing the best he could because the plan was, for the longest time, to go pro. maybe he wasn’t going to be like his brothers but he was going to make a name for himself. he had the talent, the drive and playing made him happy—frankie just needed his mom and dad to see it
about five months into his first semester, frankie suffered a shoulder injury but instead of letting it heal properly, he played through the pain and left the recovery for later. every now and again the injury flared up and reminded frankie to take it easy, which he wouldn’t do but because his body was still young, he bounced back easily most of the time. months passed, frankie finally declared social sciences as his major, mostly because he didn’t have any better ideas, and he kept playing as if his life depended on it. he kept winning and kept ignoring his shoulder which ended up coming back to bite him in the ass—it was one of his last few games before graduation, he was already on the verge of being signed to san francisco 49ers, when he got tackled so hard he passed out. a couple hours and a surgery later, it was clear that he was not going to be playing for a while. disappointed and bitter, he came back to new mexico, moved back in with parents and begrudgingly began his recovery
it was hell on earth, being back home—ever since leaving, the only times he saw himself coming back was for the holidays but now he was here, for however long it was going to take him to get better. frankie took it easy for once, took his time to rest, rehab, there was another surgery down the line, more rehab; time was flying but things were not looking up, he was still in too much pain and after a couple of consults with the best sports medicine specialists, courtesy of his parents’ connections, frankie got the sentence—he was probably never going to fully recover from his injury. maybe, hopefully, he would be able to go back to football later down the line but definitely not at professional level. the news sent frankie spiraling—that was his future down the drain
it took frankie ages to figure out what to do after all that; he spent months angry and disappointed, floating around doing pretty much nothing. what finally made frankie do something with his life was pressure from his parents but that worked in the opposite direction of what they’d probably anticipated. what they wanted frankie to do was to go back to college—his accident happened a couple months shy of graduation so technically he never finished school and if he couldn’t play, then at least he should have the degree. frankie wasn’t really interested in that—after having his dreams crushed, finishing college was the last thing on his mind. and that was how frankie’s long chain of part-time jobs started—no business in intercept was safe. he waited tables, worked the kitchen, cleaned the school, worked five different jobs at astroland, helped out at the radio station, you name it. it was a point of tension at home—frankie’s mom and dad were furious that their baby wasn’t doing anything quote-unquote serious with his life. when the fights became too much hassle, he moved out and got his own place, much to his mother’s dismay. there was a level of control while he still lived at home and after the move, he was once again free to do as he pleased, just had to deal with weekly passive-aggressive phone calls. maybe it wasn’t the original plan but eventually, frankie settled into his life with a sense of peace and, dare he say it, fulfillment. for the most part, at least. he has friends, a roof over his head, his two jobs keep money coming and sure, he misses playing and often wonders how much better his life would be if he never had to come back but most of the time, the good outweighs the bad. things could always be better, different, frankie just needs to make peace with that. or he could still leave—seems like more and more people do it these days.

Javier’s childhood was never short of love, that much could be said to be true. But surrounded by siblings who excelled in an assortment of different areas and parents who had their own opinions on how their children should be, it didn’t take long for Javier to feel as if he were falling behind in some manner or another, never quite living up to expectations. He didn’t excel in school, didn’t have natural ‘book smarts’ that seemed to come so easily to some of his siblings. He wasn’t naturally inclined to throw himself into the military and protect people he had no real connection to, or put his own life on the line against others for some bigger than him purpose.
So he rebelled. He refused to entertain his father’s whims of ultra survivalist necessity in the world they lived in, barely absorbing the random bouts of ‘knowledge’ he spewed. He broke curfew more often than not, stayed out late nights with friends passing a joint or a bottle of beer. He would sneak back in through his bedroom window, left cracked open for just that purpose - as if it might help him escape his mother’s fury. Some nights he would simply stay out all night long, hooking up with his girl friend or finding somewhere else to while away the hours. One thing that did stick in Javier’s head from his childhood, however, was the love and importance of family. As much as he might have been a thorn in their sides or a worry in the back of their mind, Javi was always there when his siblings needed him, in one way or another. In general, he looked out for his family - even if he wasn’t inherently the best at it. He’s protective of them, loyal to them - and would go to any lengths necessary to make sure they’re taken care of.
Javier’s wife became one of those critical people in his life, too. He fell hard and fast at a young age, and they’d decided to marry not long after graduating school because - well, what was the point in waiting? They knew what they had with each other was something special and wanted to form a family of their own. He got a job working as a mechanic at the local auto shop, taking on long hours to make a nice nest egg for his future family. The couple began trying for a child, or children, but their relationship started to crumble bit by bit as their attempts at conceiving a baby proved futile. After investing money in several rounds of treatment and getting excited for a coming child only to lose the dream once again - it weighed heavily on both of their shoulders.
Taking on extra shifts at the auto shop and working longer nights in an attempt to make up the money they’d spent, Javier found it more and more difficult to return home knowing they had lost another child - and knowing that his wife probably needed his support now more than ever before and he couldn’t seem to figure out how to provide it. Instead, it was far easier to throw himself into work than let himself feel. Not to mention, he missed her. He missed what they’d once had before all of this. It felt as if they’d put their entire relationship on hold and that with all their attempts to conceive, they’d distanced from one another. He missed their casual affection - and by accident, he found it in someone else. It had been a mistake as soon as it happened; just a random woman in a bar that gave him that affection he’d been craving from his wife for seemingly too long.
Javi planned to tell her as soon as it happened, but by the time he got up the courage, she was pregnant and the time simply didn’t seem right. Then the days turned to weeks, turned to months - and the secret spoiled on his tongue. He didn’t want to submit her to any unnecessary stress by bringing it up. Besides, it had only been a one time mistake. It hadn’t meant anything. He loved his wife, his family. But of course, such ugly secrets had a way of getting out. He’s not even sure how she found out, but how didn’t matter so much as what came next. She’d kicked him out of the house, refused to see or hear him out. Time passed, slipping through his fingers, as he tried to pick up the pieces and put his relationship back together again. But the pieces no longer seemed to fit. The harder he pushed, the more she pulled away. He ended up moving in with his elder brother, Santiago, in Intercept, New Mexico for a time when it seemed that repairing his relationship may not be possible.
He’s beginning to make a name for himself here, even if it doesn’t feel like home. He has his family, somehow he thinks they would always take him in no matter what horrible things he’d done, but he doesn’t have her - and it has been difficult for him to overcome that pain. He drowns it out in work and in the bottom of a liquor bottle - and sometimes when that doesn’t help, he seeks harder substances to cope.

The girl in the bar could bring some interesting drama, too.
Maybe there is a vipers arc somewhere in the future who can say.

THIS BIO CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING TRIGGERS : parent death; drunk driving mention
elliot’s mother had supernatural powers. or at least, that’s what his brother had always said. elliot hadn’t known her long enough to find out for himself. & anyway, she must not have been very good because from the moment she found out he was growing inside her, she’d sworn up and down that this baby was going to be her first daughter.
so certain was she that she’d fluttered out immediately to the nearest boutique and purchased armfuls of decorations in the name she’d selected. *ellie.* when her supernatural instincts proved incorrect, she’d thrown her head back and laughed, cradling the tiny bundle of her youngest son close. the name changed to accommodate a few more letters but ellie always stuck. she never had the chance to try again for a daughter, illness took her before she had the chance and their father left the moment she was diagnosed.
elliot had been five when they’d lost her and every day her memory had faded until she was just a story. his brother, over 9 years his senior stepped up and sacrificed nearly all of his youth to raise him — ensuring they’d never be split up. elliot witnessed the kindness people humanity could offer as well as the cruelest and they’d survived it all together.
it wasn’t fair when his brother got in that accident — the inebriated driver getting away unscathed — left with a permanent limp and a thick scar that mapped all the way up his ribs. it was the emts that saved his life and from that moment on, elliot knew he wanted to be one of those who kept people’s loved ones from death’s door.
at 22, elliot still looks up to his brother as if that man hung the stars in the sky— he might as well have, what was love if not unconditional adoration? too young to remember anywhere else, intercept is his home and he’s proud of it— despite its legends and unexplained frights: he sees them as little glimpses into the strangeness his mother had once believed in so strongly.
elliot is dedicated and diligent when it comes to his work but there are parts of him that are extremely guarded. loss teeters on the edge of all corners of his life— opening himself up to another is dangerous and he tries to avoid intimacy though his heart aches for it. there are parts of him that carry immense guilt for what his brother sacrificed to raise him — it’s something he carries without being asked, and he can’t let it go— not yet.

echoes of the youngest castellon boy can be found in warm crisp nights, the bubbling sensation in the first sip of a vodka soda, burnt marshmallows, the scent of sterile clean, soft hands, tangled brown curls, coffee mug circles left on coasters, and the faded scent of ink stains.
