i'm still thinking about this but i think noah's parents were different sort of stage parents than what alice had. alice's parents were social climbers with little regard for their child's well-being, while i think noah's parents genuinely thought they were doing their best for him. they were the sort of people who dropped everything to move to LA once they realized he could be even mildly successful as a performer. they "sacrificed" everything they had for him to have a career because they wanted him to be well off in life and not have to struggle financially in the future. and when he got to the age where they realized he actually had some ability/talent? that just made it so much heavier and the stakes so much higher. whether they were right to do so is ... an entirely different post.

WHAT  YOUR  MUSE  WILL  NOTICE  ABOUT  MINE...

WHAT  THEY  LOOK  LIKE.   conventionally pretty, but not particularly glamorous or bold. doesn't wear much makeup off stage, lip tints and mascara at most. never foundation or concealer or any base makeup because she doesn't like how it sits on her skin. a bit of pallid complexion and dark circles when she's tired - which is often.

WHAT  THEY  SMELL  LIKE.   bergamot, jasmine, honey, sea breeze, sandalwood. typically wears aegea blossom eau de parfum by aerin.

WHAT  THEY  TASTE  LIKE.   a bit of peppermint lip balm, tobacco usually. cherries, whiskey, and sweet vermouth after a manhattan.

WHAT  THEY  SOUND  LIKE.   speaks extremely deadpan, stoic. very devoid of affectations and most emotion. soft-spoken, but firm. tendency to sound bored or mad even when she isn't. (see: speaking voiceclaim.) pleasant singing voice, melodic and airy. very gentle and soothing to listen to. there's a warmth there that doesn't come out when she speaks. (see: singing voiceclaim.)

WHAT  THEY  FEEL  LIKE.   fragile, but stiff at times. like her bones are made of glass - gets sharp, if you're too rough with her. she has sensitive skin, but light callouses on her fingertips.

you are home to so many people and yet you're not at home with yourself. everyone needs something from you and you desperately try to prove that you're enough but you're never enough, never good enough, never even you despite all of that. your hands shake but only when you're never looking at them and your smile is so ever-present you can't help but wonder if its fake, wonder how much of you is real. you're a caretaker, but are you even good at that, or are you faking yourself out into believing you're something that you wish you could, someone that someone else needed you to be when you were small and so full of need and hope and fragility? who are you underneath the need to be someone's home? who are you when you come home to yourself?

the first time jack and teddy hookup is the night of her sister gwen's wedding. it also happens to be the same week that teddy turns 30 (because gwen is the sort of person to completely disregard her little sister's birthday and plan a big event around it), so naturally, she's in a destructive mood at the time.

jack has been away from the suburbs for some time, but returns to crash on his brother's couch after getting fired from his last job (that part's not really important). he ends up at the wedding because it's polite thing to do, but also because there's an open bar and he's, well, broke and fucking bored. he's only half expecting to see teddy there, but not thinking too much into it because their previous "friendship" was very loose, very casual, never intimate.

teddy doesn't expect to see him at all, but they find each other outside the venue. she's in a bridesmaid dress, he's in his dad's old suit, smoking a cigarette. he offers her one. (conversation goes like, "i can buy my own now." "sure you can, teds.") they're both a little drunk, and he says something about how she looks pretty. ("i've always been pretty, jack." and he just gives her one of those smiles.)

neither of them are really interested in going back into the party, so they nick a bottle of champagne, and go for a drive in his car. they end up at the playground where they used to smoke weed together, for old time's sake. they fall back into their old rhythm easily, but it's ... different. they both notice it too. it's tension that's been building for so many years, only now coming to the surface. jack kisses her first. teddy tells him she's got a boyfriend, but at the same time, she doesn't stop him. ("we don't have to tell him, teds." because jack's a bastard.) they end up in the back seat of his car and that's ... the start of their messy years long love affair. emphasis on affair.

adam doesn't cry much but the one really significant moment in canon was after alice left him. he stayed with his parents for a little while during that time and one night he asked his mom "am i like him?" the him in question being his biological father.

everything with alice, witnessing how deep and repressed her trauma was, seeing how it made it impossible for her to love him the way he deserved reminded him so much of colman (his only other serious relationship prior to alice). they could never work because colman was so caught up in his unresolved issues and trauma and acting out in unhealthy ways to cope, dragging adam along with him.

with alice, it was a bit different. she wanted to be loved, she wanted to be good for adam, but there was so much fear of intimacy for her because of what roy did to her. adam genuinely believed he could alice's life better the way he couldn't for col, and the fact that he couldn't just killed him.

so much of his life, whether conscious of it or not, has been about trying to do the opposite of what his father did to his mother. he'd always been drawn to people with a bit of damage, deluding himself into thinking he could repair a bit of it. so he asked his mom that night, "am i like him?" out of genuine worry and confusion as to why he can't fix it, when he'd tried so very hard to be good. he cried for what may have been hours as his mom told him over and over "you're not like him, baby. you're nothing like him."
