you were already sure the other ship was insincere before its remote unit sauntered onboard, but her behavior has made it clear to everyone. everyone except your captain, apparently- she converses with it far too amiably. this, despite the obvious irritation of all of her officers. this, despite your reminders that she is supposed to be here to negotiate a crew transfer.
it is standing on your bridge now, finally pretending to negotiate. it's taller than all of your crew, so it has to hunch over just a little when passing by the bridge consoles. you, of course, are feeding your captain information- crew complement (the other ship is better-automated than you), outfitting (your reactor is much more efficient, but has a lower output), resupply schedules (the other ship stocked up recently).
she makes some bitter remark- she's always been a pessimist. the remote unit makes that irritating smile it always makes and says, "Why, captain, I didn't know the situation was that dire for you! Perhaps we should just kill ourselves now and be done with it?"
you induce a power surge in the bridge cameras. you don't want to know how your captain responds to that.
