you cannot separate lottie’s mental status from who she is. although it’s not her only character trait, it is a very real aspect of her identity since childhood that built the foundation of many dynamics especially with family members. she displayed signs of childhood-onset schizophrenia (even though it’s rare it can happen) which resulted in being in intense outpatient therapy, medications, and when symptoms were severe enough: electroshock therapy. her schizophrenia, her symptoms, her episodes - everything that it entails: it’s part of what makes lottie lottie.

I keep getting mad in my Chinese cinema class because there are some awesome readings do be done of some films as far as gender is concerned but the film dOESN'T ACKNOWLEDGE THEM.
