All I can think of right now is Steve telling Billy— who is trapped in the The Upside Down, that he is the love of his life and that he misses him so much, every day for a year. Steve thinks that Billy can’t hear him… but he can. Billy hasn’t hacked how to communicate from The Upside Down. Billy feels like his heart is bleeding for an entire year at Steve’s heartfelt declarations. Steve’s voice keeps him in one piece, keeps him hopeful, keeps him persistent in his efforts to escape.

Steve breaks down regularly and punches whatever is near him and screams about how he was supposed to take Billy out of this godforsaken town. How he planned to take his college fund and head in any direction on the same day with Billy in tow, hand in hand and not look back. Steve tells Billy how he wonders if he would’ve been okay with a promise ring until he can get him something special with money he made on his own. He still thinks Billy can’t hear him.

Billy spends everyday trying to get back to his pretty boy.
