Chanal Benjilali is a multiracial British singer with girl group M.O. She was raised Rastafarian in early childhood, and from ages 10-14 she lived in Ethiopia, where her family converted to Christianity. After returning to the UK, she was kicked out of her house and lived “on a park bench.” She attributes this low point in her life as the inspiration to begin singing. In 2016, she auditioned for The X-Factor, but did not place. However, she did gain a managerial contract because of the show, and this connected her to M.O. She is the youngest and newest member of the group, having been unveiled as the third singer in the trio after Frankee Connolly left in 2016. Chanal’s first performance with M.O was 23 July 2017. In December 2018, Chanal and the rest of M.O won an Urban Music Award for “Best Female Act 2018.”
