she also has a very, very pretty face, but he can’t say that out loud. god forbid. she scares the hell out of him. he could say the wrong thing and—bam, she’s witch’d him out of existence. 

“and you’re drunk.” so is he, just a bit, but the point remains; there’s no way she’s being sincere right now.

“i was, uh, gonna go smoke. a joint. wanna join me? maybe? get some air?”

his throat feels tight, breath restricted. at his side, his hands clench and unclench until cat grabs them with enough grip to snap his attention to her face, but it doesn’t do much to stop the panic attack. 

he swallows and hiccups, failing at staving off panicked tears.

“xanax,” he manages. his prescription sits in a little orange bottle on his dresser. his just-in-case meds. “—in my room.” he hopes she gets the point because he’s not sure he can get any more words out.

he hates to see her likes this—defeated, tired, resigned. she puts on such a good front that it’s almost startling when she lets her walls down. ignoring his nerves, charlie grabs her hand.

“aw, c’mon. i’m pretty sure i’ve made you crack a smile a couple of times. that’s somethin’.”
