I don’t buy many CDs and am not much of a music fan anymore, but in my teens and twenties, I did buy a lot of them. I gave my entire collection to my daughter along with a CD player for Christmas a couple of years ago. Watching this movie reminded me of how much I loved these artists. Little Walter’s My Babe was a particular favourite. I checked my daughter’s collection and my CDs of Etta James, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter and Muddy Waters are still there.

But this movie was the first time I heard about their lives, albeit dramatised and not entirely accurate.

Either way, I’m gonna be listening to Little Walter’s My Babe on a loop again.

Wild Strawberries

I bought this after @thesweetpills recommended a few Ingmar Bergman titles to me, as I had not seen any of his films before. Thanks!

Professor Isak Borg, a grumpy old man, goes on a car journey from Stockholm to Lund where he is to be awarded the title of Doctor Jubilaris. Accompanied by his daughter-in-law who is returning to her husband, Isak’s son, Evald, he makes several acquaintances on the road with hitchhikers. The encounters provoke dreams and reflections on his life.

Deeply introspective, almost surrealist at times. Wonderful use of black and white cinematography, light, close ups and medium close ups, the use of silence and quietness, all enhancing the masterful acting from Victor Sjöström in particular. The first dream sequence took me by surprise in the best of ways, but even just the opening scene made me instantly regret not picking up the Ingmar Bergman boxset at HMV instead of just this individual film.

Great movie, just beautiful to watch.

GRAIL ACQUIRED!!!!!!!

I've been a huge fan of Pipkins for years and I've wanted this complete DVD set for a long time now. I'm an American, so Pipkins isn't a show I grew up with and I first heard about it in a YouTube video about creepy children's show characters that mentioned Hartley. I fell in love with the show and scoured the internet to find as many episodes as I could and it's a show I've grown very fond of. And last week I found a listing for this complete collection from a US based seller for under $80, no way was I going to pass it up! It finally arrived today and I am beyond thrilled to have this in my physical media collection!!

I have a duel DVD/Blu-ray player that I got for my birthday and the DVD function is region free, so I knew there would more than likely be no issues with these disks working in my player. I was still a bit nervous though since these are my first non-US region DVDs. But I popped the first disk in and it played beautifully!

SO excited to finally own this awesome collection of a wonderful show that everyone should check out if they can.

Physical media ftw I got a blu ray player at the thrift store for 10$! It didn’t come with a remote and had no physical buttons so I did have to buy a remote separately ($8) and the disc slot gets stuck so I have to push it in BUT it’s still a lot cheaper than new ones. I don’t actually have blu rays yet but will probably one day. For now I’m just happy I was able to find a (bootleg?) collection of Bobs Burgers on DVD. Fuuuuuuuck you hulu. I also have the complete Hey Arnold series AND complete ATLA series. Fuck you paramount.
