OC QUESTIONS which I intended to send sooner but tumblr was a jerk etc - what are Dayir and Ishan's fave weapons from their fave classes?
I don't really use class divisions for characters because I find them restrictive to my special anime Mary Sue sensibilities 😂 also, Dayir is a noncombatant! eir weapon of choice is Puttin That Thang On Em if you know what I'm sayin wink wonk
Ishan does have his favourites, though. my first battle-ready visions of him featured daggers, because he favours being up-close and personal with foes. he's pretty perverse about it; he wants your blood and guts literally spilling over his hands or else he's not satisfied. I actually considered giving him Fenris' heart-fisting powers and I still might
he'll tell you that his favourite pair of daggers is the pair Tsuyu commissioned for him, and it's mostly true, because he bonded pretty deeply with her and he tends to express his affection for people by carrying them with him on the field of battle in some symbolic way. but that same logic is what makes his true favourite pair the one Count Edmont de Fortemps gifted him. because Ishan was in a pretty bad way during the Ishgard story arc and Edmond's infinite patience and desire to understand what plagued this supposed lost son of Ishgard left more of an effect on Ishan than he'd realised. he still won't acknowledge it lmao but literally everyone picked up on it bc he's a wide open book who thinks he's a top-secret redacted document
I also have conceptualised Ishan with a lance because some of the shit Estinien does in battle gives me huge Ishan vibes, and since the Ishan-Estinien bond is also well-known and long-enduring, I'm sure any lance he carries will be tied to our beloved taciturn dragoon somehow
now, with Reaper being the hot new Thing, you'd think I'd immediately shove a scythe in Ishan's hands, but a scythe is a cumbersome weapon with a specific moveset that I don't think fits Ishan's fighting style. Ishan is absolutely still a Reaper, but his style is much more about the void magic of it all and doesn't require him to do anything different weapon-wise
back to Dayir real quick: I think if Dayir were to carry any sort of battle-ready object it'd be a staff. because I think staves are sexy. no, that's not the whole reason lol it's also because I think having a channeling device for some of eir absolutely insane majykks is probably not a bad idea. brb while I go look at pretty ingame staves and daydream
