[1/2] Okay, so I've literally just spent like three hours reading all of your Deacon posts. And I must say, you probably have some of the best understanding and in-depth character study of him. He has always been a puzzle that even after all of the years after the game's release, I've still been trying fo figure out properly. And you really put a whole lotta things into perspective about his personality.
[2/2] I was wondering if you would ever consider writing a fanfic x reader/oc story of him? Dealing with the character falling for him, but he can’t truly open up and allow himself to be that vulnerable with someone like that. Which would result in challenges and struggles within himself. Cause I honestly feel like you would be the best person to hit the nail on the head with it.
Sorry for taking so long to reply! Tumblr never told me I had an ask waiting!
Deacon is a super fun character to write for and I’m glad you’ve enjoyed what I wrote for him! Thank you for taking the time to send me this awesome message!
I don’t feel comfortable taking all that credit tho - while the fandom was hopping, there were a lot of great conversations, asks, and important meta posts that really helped us noodle out the different aspects of Deacon, and helped me figure out how I see him, too.
I deffo have drafts of the dynamic you’re talking about with my Sole Survivor, but I’ve never had the stamina to finish multi-chapter work outside of one FOBB event. There’s a facet of this dynamic that’s also pinned on the fact that Deacon needs the Survivor to work for him or he risks the future of the RR - how does he balance his own personal feelings with how he thinks he needs to act to keep the Survivor on his side?
Sure, he may feel like he can’t actually open up, but if his reluctance pushed away the Survivor, what would he do then? How would he handle that? Would he actually open up? Would he pretend to open up? At what stage does he feel like he’s gone from lying to unforgivable deceit in that case?
Its a really intense line of questioning and something I’m still thinking about like three years later, because Deacon is just such a good character. Maybe I will get some one-shots done with this dynamic? I’ve been itching to re-install FO4 again. Thank you again for the kind words and I hope you have a blast wandering around the Wasteland with our favorite RR agent ✌️✌️
