There are really people in the notes of that post saying that actually it’s “important” to “consume all kind of contents” and that includes consuming both high tier and low brow content so I’m going to go out on a limb and say that actually it isn’t. It’s not important to read or watch stuff you find badly written or lacking in substance and quality. It’s not important to read or write fanfiction, it’s not important to watch soulless and dull superhero movies and it’s not important to consume media meant for kids and teens once you’re past the target age. If you find fun and joy in something that is bad quality – good for you! Everyone has their list of bad media they find fun. But the point of reading and watching media is to find things you find beautiful and interesting and challenging. You should have some standards and a personal taste and both things should be evolving as you explore more. You should always be on the lookout for the next beautiful thing. Otherwise you’re just mindlessly looking at a screen and looking for your next source of cheap and easy entertainment, and that’s just a sad way to live.
