I met Eugene Simons today, and I can confirm that he will not be in season 3 GoT.... But he is a lovely person, super funny and is actually a fan of the books, which is such a shame because he is a terrible actor
He does seem like a really nice guy. :)
Happy you got to meet him!
Thanks for the info!
It is kind of weird, but I never realized that Eugene Simon was a bad actor! I just assumed that Lancel was supposed to be really melodramatic and hilarious, unlike Daenerys who is supposed to be in command and serious business. Even after reading your complaints, I can't help but thinking that he is in character, lmao
Hi. haha
Well I think Lancel was supposed to be a flop. But Eugene’s supposed to act like he’s a flop, not be a flop at acting. lol
I think any actor can give a performance like he/she was a flop, melodramatic, annoying, or an unpleasant person, without actually giving a bad performance.Eugene Simon is too over the top, not credible, and just barely commited to the scenes he does. In general, he’s not acting, he just overacting, or acting badly. I think it’s possible to be flop and crawl for forgiveness in front of Tyrion, without overacting. Even during his speech in front of Joffrey, before Sansa’s beating, he was just so unnatural, and rehearsed. The speech sounded too prepared, forced, and not credible. He gave me some second hand embarrassment highschool-play level.
The only time I felt he was better, was when he’s talking to Tyrion in the streets of KL, and Tyrion says “I do not care about your life” or something like that, and he looks at him with this sad puppy face, and that’s when he used the right amount of flopness to represent his character. That was just right, or slightly better than the rest of his work.
However, the poor guy doesn't even have enough screen time to prove me wrong. So, I just find his scenes kinda funny, nothing more.
thanks
Uh, Eugene Simon barely has screen time.
I know anon. I’ve said before.
Probably can’t compare since he doesn’t even have that much screen time to suck.
EDIT: But you know, he still sucks. And Clarke's skills can only be matched by him.
Who's worse: Eugene or Emilia? I was rewatching his scene with Dinklage in season two, and it seemed to me he manages a slightly more decent job than her in that particular season.
Hi anon.
I personally think they are equally bad. Though I think he’s worse in many areas. But since his screen time, and character importance, is minimum compared to hers, then I have to say she’s worse. She has more screen time than other actors, also her character is important, and her storyline is central on the show. So her bad acting affects the show more than his.
Thanks!
The guy who plays Lancel is going to be at my local Comic Con, and I now don't know how to react around him after seeing your posts about his acting.
LMAO.
Just be polite and ask for photos or autographs if you like that kind of things, and if you want of course. He seems like a sweet guy and very polite as well, so is not like you have to tell him “omg I admire your work”, “omg you are so good”, “where do you find your inspiration to play such a great role in such great way”. lol. You don’t have to lie, but neither to be rude.
I think if an actor wants to know about how their work is perceived then they should read about it, telling them in their faces is not good. So don’t bring it up, cause it may be really rude.
But I get what you are saying, like you are there, paying attention to what he says at the Con, getting in line to get an autograph and all the sudden the mental image of his overacting comes rushing into your head. And you can’t help it, you can’t, a smile is forming in your face. The line is moving quickly and it would be your turn soon. You can’t help it, your smile turns into a creepy smile, because your are forcing yourself not to burst into laughter. You walk slowly and try to stall the people behind you, they push you to go faster. You can’t help it, the big awkward smile is there, and all the sudden is your turn. You are in front of him, he says “Hi”, and all you can think of is the sight of him getting hit by Cersei in the chest, or the moments in which he overacted as hell and made memorable and hilariously bad acting, and that’s when a giggle comes out of your mouth! You try to shut up, but you can’t! He signs the autograph, you leave the line bursting into laughter, crying your eyes out, and unable to breathe.
Pat yourself in the back, at least you didn’t do it in front of his face.
ha ha hahaha ;)
Just be nice and polite. And collect an autograph, cause like I said, he could be the next Nic Cage.
thanks!
I <3 your blog, and have been going through the archives the past few days. Oh, the Lancel posts. I thought his acting brought a wonderful hilarious quality to the show. I can't help but laugh every time I think of Cersei pushing him and him dramatically falling over. I know it's bad acting, but it's like it's entered that realm where it's so bad it's good.
Ikr!
With really, really hard work he could be the “Nicolas Cage” of thrones!
EDIT: Nicolas Cage doesn't have an "H" in his name. My bad!
lol. Thank you!
sorry if it was asked, but what do you think about Finn Jones's acting (Loras Tyrell)?
Hi anon.
No, I don’t think there have been many asks about his acting. I did though, make a reference about it on the review of the deleted scenes.
He's bad. I think he was able to get away with it for season 1, even though he was not good for that entire season. For season 2, his performance was quite average-to-bad. He’s not convincing and just can’t show emotions in general. The scene of Renly’s funeral was just poor acting.
I really don’t have much to say about it, since he’s just that. I think he can get away with it when there’s not much demanded from him, like on season 1, but season 2 created for him a couple of more complicated scenes to deal with, and it showed that he’s not really prepared.
The deleted scene gave him a bit more space to explore, but he just didn’t do it for me. He was not convincing. Though like I said, I almost liked his crying. But no, at the end, he just doesn’t do it for me. He gave a poor performance. The scene in general was more important for Natalie Dormer, and it showed better her skills, than his.
I think he seems like a really nice and sympathetic guy (from his twitter anyway), but I don't think he can be particularly good in this.
Somehow I never noticed his performance till the Renly's funeral scene came up. And that's when I looked back to his body of work on the show. But somehow never mentioned it here. I can't remember if I did or didn't.
I made a list before about actors who need to improve, and he's one of those. I think I'd modify my top 3 bad acting too:
1- Clarke
2- Simon (Lancel)
3- Jones
Thanks!
