What do you think of Loras' portrayal in the movies, and as a book character? I'm sorry if you've answered this before, I didn't find his name in the FAQ and am going through your blog right now
Hi!
You mean the actor’s portrayal, right? You are right there’s no tag for Loras, but there’s one for Finn Jones and his portrayal as Loras.
I’m not really attached to the Tyrells as a House, except for some rare and exceptional exceptions (Olenna!), but I do find show!Margaery a lot more interesting. At least when her story is brought up to the forefront and when Natalie’s acting is on point, the character wins more than it loses with the adaptation. But in general the Tyrells were nothing I was concerned about, and Loras happens to fall in there too. I don’t find Book!Loras that great, but obviously the character (in the books) is a lot more interesting and actually has more depth even when in the show it has more notoriety, I would say. It probably comes down to the “subtlety issue” the show has. On the show the character is basically there to be a cliche and a source for many unfunny, tired and stereotypical gay jokes, while in the books the character has more back story, even if minimal, and it’s admirable certain lines he has that remind us about his relationship with Renly and where his alliance was. Show!Loras suffers from really bad writing and pretty bad acting. Combination that kills the chances of ever becoming what the character was supposed to be.
Thanks!
